9 of the best weekend trousers to see you through dog walks, sofa surfing and pub lunches

Elasticated waistbands, easy-to-care-for fabrics and sharp silhouettes are the key to what we’re calling the ‘weekend trouser’. Here are the best comfy styles to shop now.
People often fall into two camps once the weekend rolls around: those who have their going-out outfits planned for days in advance and those who can’t wait to kick off their loafers and lie on the sofa in sweatpants. Perhaps you’re a mixture of the two. Either way, the idea still stands that tailored trouser suits and smart dresses are put to the back of our wardrobes until Monday comes around again.
Not worrying about what to wear at the weekend can feel rather freeing, with no stressing about what’s ‘office appropriate’ or comfortable to wear on our commutes. However, deciding how to dress when your day comprises hourly plans can also be a bit of a pain. How much longer will we be able to throw a trench coat over a pair of gym leggings to make them appropriate for lunch is a key question.
Luckily, we’ve found the perfect solution: an item we’re coining ‘weekend trousers’ – comfortable enough to wear when lying on the sofa yet chic enough to pop to the pub in. Elasticated waistbands, easy-to-care-for fabrics and sharp silhouettes stand out as key elements, and we’ve selected nine of our favourite pairs to shop below.
M&S linen-blend wide-leg trousers
With the warmer weather on the way, a lighter, brighter pair of trousers can update your wardrobe for springtime. Made from linen, they’re cosy and incredibly easy to care for, plus the matching shade T-shirt instantly elevates the look without too much effort.
Mango straight-fit openwork knitted trousers
For more of a statement-making trouser, knitted trousers are a simple way to create an eye-catching look. Created from a cotton-polyester blend, they’re perfect for sunny, warm days. Wear with a simple black T-shirt, a slouchy shirt layered over and delicate woven sandals.
Nobody’s Child butter-yellow wide-leg trousers
In a warm shade of trending butter yellow, these Nobody’s Child trousers make us think of the office. With a wide-leg fit and loose cut, they’re more comfortable than your standard suit trousers. Whether you decide to wear them at the weekend or for added comfort at work, we’re confident you’ll find plenty of places to show them off.
Albaray stripe linen-blend drawstring trousers
These Albaray trousers remind us of last summer’s pyjama pant trend, and they look comfy enough to wear to bed as well. While the striped pattern will instantly add interest to any outfit, the white shade is straightforward to style, whether it’s with grey jumpers or a simple vest top, as pictured.
Selvi Carla trouser
Selvi The Label is the new name on everyone’s radar, serving up sleek separates and effortless maxi dresses. But it’s these white trousers we’re obsessed with, made from a cotton-elastane blend, they’re perfect for weekend errands, springtime picnics and morning coffee runs.
Poetry relaxed wide-leg trousers
Simple and sleek, these pull-on trousers are an item you want to jump straight into as soon as you come home. A wide-leg fit means they move with your body, while the ochre-sand shade is a little more elevated than your basic white or beige.
Toast Gabi cotton pull-on trousers
Toast is a great place to search for high-quality, long-lasting finds and these khaki green trousers are a perfect example. Crafted from a cotton-elastane blend, they have a bit of stretch to make them more comfortable while the tapered cut offers a more formal fit.
Hush Amie wide-leg joggers
We’ll reach for these on chill-out days when we still want to feel stylish (and look presentable if someone drops in on us unexpectedly). Made from a cotton-blend, they’re super soft and have a relaxed wide-leg style.
New Look Curves dark blue drawstring waist denim trousers
