Brimming with personality and playfulness, Anya Hindmarch’s much-hyped second collection for Uniqlo is back with 11 womenswear and four kidswear pieces that are perfect for brightening up your winter wardrobe.

Today sees the launch of the second Uniqlo x Anya Hindmarch collaboration. The autumn/winter collection that spans women’s and childrenswear is the second of its kind (the first was a huge success, with many items selling out in a matter of days) and expertly merges the British designer’s personality and craftsmanship with the functionality that the Uniqlo brand is synonymous with.

Anya Hindmarch founded her business in London in 1987, growing it into a global brand known for its luxury, organisation-obsessed accessories and experiential retail concepts. Creativity, modern craft and personalisation sit at the heart of everything Anya Hindmarch does, with the designer admitting that she finds it “difficult to take [herself] too seriously”.

The new, 11-piece womenswear collection comprises lightweight jackets with Puffertech technology, crew neck knits and accessories. The colour palette strikes the perfect balance between playful and classic, with bright pink, tomato red, rich navy and beautiful mushroom brown, all of which incorporate Anya’s signature eye and mouth motifs. With an abundance of accessories in the collection, including hats, scarves, gloves and socks, and with prices starting at just £7.90, it’s the perfect way to inject some fun into your winter wardrobe or (or the Christmas stockings of friends or family).

Hindmarch explains her vision for the collection: “We had such a lovely reaction to the previous collection that we wanted to build on the concept, rather than create something completely new. With the first collection, the thinking was simple: one, I’m an obsessive Uniqlo customer. Two, I wanted to play with what Uniqlo does so well – the materials, the silhouettes and shapes – in terms of how an item is worn, how it washes, all those things. So I wanted to preserve those things but also sort of dissect, deconstruct, and play – add some interesting details to say we’ve been here, we’ve played here. So that was very much the original idea. And it’s the idea we’ve continued.”

One of the first things that jumps out about the collection is the brilliant use of colour throughout, which Hindmarch says was a starting point for the collection. The cashmere crew neck jumpers, which come in the most saturated shades, are the hero piece, an item that Anya describes as “just really incredible”. As well as being packed with personality, the collection fuses the technology and quality that Uniqlo is known for.

The tomato red style is vibrant and nods to the enduring trend for bright red that we have seen on the catwalks for a couple of seasons, and is going nowhere for spring. A red knit works in so many ways for winter too. Style it with burgundy wide-leg track pants, retro trainers and a wool coat for an elevated everyday look. Wear it with tailored trousers, kitten heels and a blazer for work drinks or with jeans and ankle boots for weekend walks and pub lunches with friends.
