The tiny bag trend that’s stolen the hearts of the London fashion pack

Forget a carry-all; this season it’s all about a bag that can fit only the bare essentials.

At every fashion week, our eyes are on the prizes — that is, the accessories candy trailing off the arms of our favourite street stylers. And this season, one silhouette dominated at London Fashion Week. That is, the tiny bag.

These dinky, diminutive bags are statement worthy in their sheer lack of size. Forget fitting in all your everyday essentials. Leave your purse at home and pack your bank card; got an iPhone 10? You better trade it in for a Nokia 8310, or (more realistically) wear a coat with big pockets, for these teeny tiny trending accessories fit in the bare minimum. But their chic levels? Off the charts.

While they may appear a tad impractical at first, the tiny bag trend has its benefits — what it actually does is force you to be super selective with your packing. After all, our handbags are prone to filling up with all manner of everyday litter, from shopping receipts to numerous lipsticks, balms, hair clips, et cetera. The dinky bag leaves no room for such chaos. (Best of all, such skill will benefit you immensely the next time you’re flying Ryanair with a hand luggage only allowance. Style with substance, see?)

And some of them come with a handy crossbody bag, which leaves you free to carry, if needed, a chic tote bag to fit in all of your actual essentials, laptop included — this means that on your lunch break, you’re not having to cart about your huge, heavy bag; leave it at your desk, sling your tiny bag over your shoulder and simply go to Pret hands-free.

For extra style points, match your micro to your mule — we love this bag by Jacquemus in fluro yellow, paired with a super elegant kitten heel mule.

Essentially a glorified phone pouch, this super chic forest green flat satchel from & Other Stories is a must-wear this season. With a contrast resin handle as well as a longer body strap, pair this one with chocolate brown trousers and a trench coat.
