Renowned for its “100 Most Influential…” lists, TIME magazine has just released its list of the 100 Most Influential Fashion Icons.

The roster spans the most prominent roles in the world of fashion - from models and muses to designers, photographers and editors - from 1923, the beginning of TIME (when the magazine was launched), to now.

Madonna and Michelle Obama sit side-by-side with Jean Harlow, Josephine Baker and Audrey Hepburn in the muses list, while the likes of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen rub shoulders with Jean-Paul Gaultier, Hubert de Givenchy and Coco Chanel in the designers category.

The editors & stylists list is dominated by formidable women – think Anna Wintour, Patricia Field, Isabella Blow and Diana Vreeland - while just two female photographers, Ellen von Unwerth and Annie Leibovitz, make it into their respective category.
