Grassy greens, Wimbledon whites and a very preppy Zendaya.
Anyone for tennis? Because the press tour for Luca Guadagnino’s much-anticipated tennis love triangle flick Challengers is officially underway and Zendaya has been serving ace after ace – sartorially, that is.
Ever one for a red carpet theme, Zendaya fully embraced a tennis-inspired dress code for this press tour. With an array of crisp looks in a palette of brilliant Wimbledon whites and tennis-court greens, the actor has officially made the case for a sleek, preppy, tenniscore-inspired summer. (So long, Barbie; we’re trading your trademark pink for grass green.)
Zendaya began her tour in Paris with two looks in which green was the star of the show: green in the exact shade of a freshly cut tennis court, to be precise. The first was a 2013 Louis Vuitton mini coat dress with a green and white checked pattern and a 60s-esque round collar, which she paired with a preppy white headband (Blair Waldorf would approve). The next was a satin trouser suit, also in bright, grassy green, which she kept unbuttoned from the chest down.
Of course, bright Wimbledon whites have also been appearing in her wardrobe.
The most inspired look so far is perhaps this mini Loewe dress – with its deep Varsity v-neck and its pleated mini skirt, it is the perfect nod to looks we’ve seen on the courts. And to top it off, she paired the dress with a pair of white Loewe heels with literal tennis balls on the heels.
Zendaya (along with her stylist, Law Roach) has officially proven that tenniscore isn’t just about athleisure – it’s also the perfect inspiration for our going out looks, too.
In fact, couture brands are proving to be embracing the trend this year, too. Just take Miu Miu, who showed an array of clean cut pleated mini skirts and polo shirts in their SS24 collection. Lacoste also continues to make the case for tennis-themed looks. Their latest runway show in Paris debuted green and white looks shown inside Roland Garros Stadium, home of the Paris Open.
Of course, tenniscore has also found firm footing in the athleisurewear industry in recent years, too. Ganni added a streetwear spin to the original tennis dress, adding crafty cut-outs and clashing colours. Reformation has followed suit and, instead, gone for green, and Wimbledon has partnered with Ralph Lauren to create a range of preppy logo looks that are just as cool on or off centre court.
Keep reading below to see our favourite tenniscore picks, from skirts to sweatshirts – rackets optional.
