First look at Beyoncé's Topshop athleisure line inspired by her own personal experiences
10 years ago
As if you needed another excuse to wear athleisure, Beyoncé's own line is finally here. It's got a name, and an Instagram account, and a launch date, and everything: get excited.
Queen Bey's Topshop clothing line, called Ivy Park (we're guessing the name is inspired by her daughter, Blue Ivy Carter?), has just been unveiled via the star's Instagram account, showing the star wearing a black leotard of her own creation, and linking through to her new label's Instagram account, which, naturally, already has over 25,000 followers in less than an hour.
Beyoncé's sporty clothing line was originally set to be released in 2015, but we're assuming the extra time has been taken to make it even more perfect. The collection, which is purely "athleisure" (y'know, the fashion-forward, comfy cool, athletic gear sported by Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid et al) is made up of 200 separate sporty pieces including jackets, bodysuits, sports bras and even footwear.
And don't fear, you won't have to pay extortionate shipping fees to get your new athleisure over here from the States - Ivy Park will be stocked in 50 countries, and not only online, but in real life too at classy outlets like Topshop and Selfridges, from April 14th.
In a statement, Beyoncé said: "When I'm working and rehearsing I live in my workout clothes but I didn't feel like there was an athletic brand that spoke to me. My goal with Ivy Park is to push the boundaries of athletic wear and to support and inspire a women who understand that beauty is more than your physical appearance.
"True beauty is in the health of our minds, hearts and bodies. I know that when I feel physically strong, I am mentally strong and I wanted to create a brand that made other women feel the same way."
There's even an Ivy Park video, which shows Bey herself modelling select pieces from the collection, including hoodies, headbands and sports bras - and there's even a super-cute cameo from Blue Ivy
In the video, Beyoncé can be heard explaining her inspiration behind her fashion line's name.
"I would wake up in the morning, and my dad would come knocking at my door, telling me it's time to go running. I remember wanting to stop, but I would push myself to keep going," she says.
"It taught me discipline. And I would think about my dreams. I would think about the sacrifices my parents made for me. I would think about my little sister and how I was her hero.
"I would look at the beauty around me, the sun shining through the trees. I would keep breathing. There are things I'm still afraid of. When I have to conquer those things, I still go back to that park.
"Before I hit the stage, I go back to that park. When it was time for me to give birth, I went back to that park. The park became a state of mind. The park became my strength. The park is what made me who I am. Where's your park?"
BRB, we're off to find our park right now...
