They’re the smart woman’s way to do summer in style.
If you thought summer meant having to pack away your tailoring, then think again. The shorts suit is here to update the classic trouser suit in an instant. The easy-to-wear longer style Bermuda short is already a trend this season, so when teamed with the blazer – an iconic wardrobe staple in itself – it’s destined to be a match made in sartorial heaven.
We’ve already spotted different styles at every London hotspot as soon as the sun has arrived, along with being all over our Instagram feeds on some of the most stylish women. Below, we’ve rounded up our four favourite shorts suit trends: from chic neutrals to punchy prints – see this as the guide for how to style the cool co-ord this summer.
1) Nod to neutrals
You can never go wrong with neutral tones. In fact, beige is one of the key colours and it’s so easy to wear – if you avoid Aperol Spritz stains, that is.
Hannah Croskey teams her chic Jigsaw linen shorts suit with one of this season’s coolest and comfortable footwear trend – the flip-flop. This is a prime example of how to make a suit work for summer.

2) Sorbet shades
If you want to inject a bit of colour into your summer wares, gelato shades are the way to go. Think pistachio, strawberry, lemon sorbet (is it just us that now wants an ice-cream?) and you’ve nailed it.
Team with clean, neutral shades like influencer Romy Spector to keep the look sleek.

3) Not so basic black
The black suit never fails. Be it for work, after-dark or summer. Yes, that’s right here at Stylist we are more than onboard with wearing all black during the warmer months and you can see how our team styles black dresses, here.
Back to suits, you can also take inspiration from Copenhagen-based stylist Sophia Roe and in true Scandinavian fashion keep it simple, effortless and sharply tailored.

4) Print perfect
If you’re more of a maximalist than a minimalist then a statement print will be your go-to this summer. Be it grown-up gingham, punchy florals, stripes or polka dots – it’s all about being bold in the outfit department.
Make even more of an entrance with a vibrant shoe just like over 50s influencer Ven’s wife style. Add chic sunglasses (we’ve rounded up the best under £100 already, here) and you’re good to go.
