If there’s one thing the internet is not short on, alongside cat videos and endlessly frustrating debates of course, it’s wedding inspiration. Beaming brides and gorgeous wedding dresses come as standard.
But while Millie Taylor-Morrison is certainly beaming, she’s anything but a standard bride – as her popularity online attests.
For Taylor-Morrison is not only 86, not only in possession of a touching love story, but designed. Her. Dress. Herself. And she looks bloody amazing.
The New Jersey-based grandmother married Harold Morrison earlier this month, more than 60 years after they first met, and her granddaughter Khadija Elkharbibi couldn’t resist posting her story to Facebook group Love What Matters.
Writing alongside the stunning picture, she said the family were ecstatic that Taylor-Morrison had found love again, 24 years after her first husband died.
She wrote: “She just turned 86 one week ago and her new husband will be 86 in December. My grandmother was married to my grandfather for 41 years when he passed away. She found love again almost 25 years later and our family couldn't be happier for her. This is a true testament that age is just a number and everyone can find love again.”
People.com then tracked down the bride, who revealed she’d designed her stunning purple gown herself.
“I had a vision of what I’d like this dress to be, so I asked a young man in my church who is an artist to sketch it and I took it to the dressmaker,” she said. “It was exactly what I wanted. I felt so wonderful.”
Meanwhile, Elkharbibi told huffingtonpost.com that everyone loved her grandmother’s incredible outfit: “The look on everyone’s face when they saw her, but especially the look on Mr. Harold’s face when he saw her walking down the aisle – it was the absolute sweetest thing you could ever see!
“He teared up. It was beautiful! My nana just beamed with happiness.”
Former model Taylor-Morrison also told a little more about how she and her 85-year-old beau, who attended her first wedding in 1952, finally got together, explaining that after they got reacquainted at church, he became ill and she moved him into her house.
When he got better, she said she wanted to make their union official as they're both religious.
“I’m a Christian woman and I want to live a Christian life,” she told the website. “We decided that even though we were in our twilight years, we wanted to be pleasing in God’s eyes.”
And thus, the week's favourite internet bride was crowned.
