Nicole, Katie and Rosie: The star guests wowing Milan Fashion Week

By Anna Pollitt

The spectacle of the celebrity front row has reached new heights at Milan Fashion Week, where stars from Nicole Kidman to Ellie Goulding have made high-profile appearances at the biggest name shows.

Jennifer Lopez’s internet-breaking catwalk at Versace and Rita Ora’s Prada-clad performance at the amfAR gala may be among the louder celebrity moments from Milan Fashion Week but the front rows have attracted a host of A-list celebrities from around the globe.

Nicole Kidman flew in to attend her first ever Prada show, new bride Ellie Goulding wowed in a white suit at Alberta Ferretti, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley donned a suit and bra at Versace and Katie Holmes made a bold footwear statement at Fendi.

Theirs is a longtime friendship, but Nicole Kidman and Miuccia Prada only joined forces at a Prada show for the first time this Milan Fashion Week.

“I’ve been friends with Miuccia, for well, for many, many years, over 20 years,” Kidman told WWD. “But this is my first show. I love her and I love supporting her.”

The actor, 52, wore an elegant printed dress and cat eye shades and spent time chatting to crowds of fans and taking selfies with them ahead of the collection. She later joined Jarvis Cocker (yes, really) and Wes Anderson at a private opening of the Il Sarcofago di Spitzmaus e altri tesori exhibition at the Prada Foundation.

Kidman wasn’t the only Hollywood actor who flew in for the show. Regina King took to the frow in a sleek shirt and feather bottomed jeans after a short trip to Florence.

“I actually started my trip in Firenze, and walked until my feet hurt and ate a lot, too,” she told WWD. “It was sneakers all the way.”

The sneakers were cast aside for a pair of sparkling lilac sandals for the show.

Has Fashion Week really happened if Alexa Chung hasn’t provided a lewk? She served up the goods en route to Prada in a blue embroidered blouse and sporty shorts, teamed with black patent platform boots.

Winnie Harlow, meanwhile, was fully committed to the boilersuit trend. She wore her Prada branded khaki outfit with heavy lace-up platform boots and loose, straight hair.

A few weeks after wowing the fashion world in a bespoke Chloé dress for her wedding to Caspar Jopling, Ellie Goulding cemented her fashion nouse with an appearance at Alberta Ferretti.

The Starry Eyed hitmaker once again wore all-white, but this was a sharper, more streamlined look in the shape of a military-style jacket with oversized gold buttons and white tasselled epaulettes and high-waist wide-leg trousers. She finished the look with white platform boots.

The latest advocate of the seemingly indefatigable love it/hate it socks-with-sandals trend is none other than Katie Holmes, on the front row at Fendi.

The 40-year-old Dawson’s Creek star wore a red pleated print dress and red jacket with dainty pink bow platform sandals and sheer block print socks. She proudly declared which side of the fence she sits on in the socks and sandals debate in an Instagram post highlighting her controversial footwear choice.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley revived the ‘90s trend of wearing bras under suits at Versace, with a sparkling black look teamed with smouldering dark eyes and a chunky gold collar necklace.
