Model Lauren Wasser on the importance of prioritising self-acceptance, accepting your trauma and why she loves working with empowering female-led brands like Bluebella.

This week, lingerie brand Bluebella announced model Lauren Wasser as the brand’s new Valentine’s Day campaign star. The campaign, which goes by the name of Love Letters, champions self-love in its purest form, focusing on female narratives, celebrating the best of ourselves and encouraging self-acceptance and confidence.

Love Letters highlights Wasser’s journey towards appreciating and ultimately loving her body, and it’s an invitation for the Bluebella audience to respect and love themselves.

Wasser embodies resilience, having found the strength to transform personal tragedy into a powerful message of hope and advocacy. In 2012, at the age of 24, she experienced menstrual toxic shock syndrome (mTSS), a bacterial infection that almost took her life and ultimately led to the loss of both her legs. Although the experience almost overwhelmed her, Wasser’s determination and love for her family motivated her to persevere. She returned to modelling and continues to train as an athlete and actor, but she’s also become an outspoken activist, raising awareness for mTSS prevention and inspiring countless others with her story and spirit.

Wasser says: “This campaign is about owning yourself, something I feel that I really embody. I think that’s what makes us all unique and special in our own way.”

Bluebella was founded in 2005 by Emily Bendell and was born from a simple idea to create luxurious and sensual lingerie for self-assured women. Bendell says: “Love Letters is an invitation to celebrate loving ourselves. Lauren embodies the core values that Bluebella stands for: bravery, honesty and intelligence. She is a hugely successful model and athlete in her own right, and an inspirational advocate across everything she does. We believe that her journey to loving herself will encourage our audience to do the same.”

Read on to discover Wasser’s thoughts on self-acceptance and self-love, and why she loves working with empowering female-led brands.

On the importance of self-acceptance

“Embracing who you are and everything that you’ve gone through is very much part of your journey, which helps create and craft the person that you are right now. I think owning, accepting and empowering yourself with that is important.”

On working with empowering female-led brands

“I love that Bluebella stands for personal empowerment – that feeling of looking in the mirror and being like, wow, I look beautiful and hot in this, and it’s not for anyone else. And I think that’s the cool thing that differentiates, as love starts with yourself.”

On finding strength in embracing your trauma

“Embody and embrace who you are and everything that you’ve gone through, even if it was good or bad or ugly or trauma or horrible. Remember you made it. I think that’s strength and your power.”
