Jennifer Lawrence, Pixie Geldof and Sofia Richie have all been spotted in these stylish shoes.
Love it or loathe it, the mesh ballet flat trend is booming. Introduced by Bottega Veneta a couple of seasons ago, the square-toe design was certainly ahead of its time, and the UK high street is now awash with options. Leading the toe-baring shoe revolution is Khaite, with its in-demand crystal embellished version (that now comes in a variety of shades, including red and cream), and London-based brand Dear Frances, with its minimalist yet chic iterations.
For anyone looking to step into one of the most rapidly growing trends of the moment, we’ve found nine pairs of mesh ballet flats to suit a wide range of budgets. And remember, when it comes to styling, they should pair with almost everything, whether it’s an office-friendly three-piece suit, jeans and a simple T-shirt or a colourful co-ord.
Arket mesh ballerinas
While there’s now a whole host of black mesh ballet flats to pick from, coloured styles are a little harder to come by. Luckily, Arket has this rather striking red option if you’re after something a little more daring.
Khaite crystal-embellished Marcy mesh ballet flats
To elevate the everyday mesh ballet flat every further, Khaite has added crystals. This makes them the perfect evening shoe as well as a striking style for daytime too.

Straps are a great way to add extra interest to ballet flats, and they also stop them from slipping off of your feet. If you’re in-between sizes or prefer that extra security when rushing around doing day-to-day errands, it’s handy to have the straps there as an option.
Dear Frances Balla mesh
One of the original adopters of the mesh ballet flat, Dear Frances pairs have been spotted on many a famous fashion fan. Bringing a barely-there vibe, these white see-through shoes will pair with absolutely everything in your wardrobe.
& Other Stories mesh ballet flats
If you’re looking to add a bit of an edge to your mesh ballet flats, a studded strap is a great option. The black colourway has already sold out, so you may want to be speedy with the white option if they take your fancy.
Mango ballerinas with mesh bracelet
For a slightly different take on the trend, Mango’s mesh ballet flats are made with bigger holes and thicker fabric strands, reducing the amount of foot on show while also creating a pretty pattern. We’d say this is the pick of the bunch for those wanting to try the trend without truly committing.
Camper Casi Myra
Bright blue and incredibly bold, these mesh Mary Janes are certainly eye-catching. Slightly more sturdy in style thanks to the strap and small block heel, yet the mesh is still the main focal point.
Jeffrey Campbell Moira mesh flats
Jeffrey Campbell’s Moira mesh flats come in a whole host of colours, including pink, red, lilac and this beautiful blue. While the strap makes them a slightly more practical pick, the colour makes them truly pop – they’ll be the focal point of any outfit.
Everlane ballet flat
Taking a traditional ballet flat style, this Everlane option is sweet and chic. The small bow on the front of the shoe gives it a back-to-school look, while the mesh makes them a more fashion-forward find.
