On her latest appointment during the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s South African tour, Meghan Markle wore a chic trench coat dress from the high street. Here is where you can buy the item now.
Meghan Markle is a woman who knows her taste.
The Duchess of Sussex has always been a fan of dresses fashioned from outerwear, whether it be chic tuxedo mini dresses – like the one by Judith and Charles she wore to a performance of Hamilton in London – or sleeveless trench coat dresses. They’ve been a staple in her wardrobe long before she met Prince Harry, and judging by her latest appearance in South Africa they still are.
On a solo engagement visiting the University of Johannesburg today, Meghan wore a sleeveless trench coat dress in a chic tan colour from Banana Republic. The dress, which costs £95 (USD$115), is still available on the Banana Republic website in selected sizing in the tan colour that Meghan chose, as well as a version in white.
Meghan completed the outfit with a pair of shoes by Stuart Weitzman, her evil eye bracelet from Turkish brand Alemdara and Jen Meyer earrings.

Meghan was at the university to meet “with academics and students to discuss the challenges faced by young women in accessing higher education,” according to People. Fostering education throughout the Commonwealth is one of Meghan’s responsibilities as the royal patron of the Association of Commonwealth Universities.
As per royal correspondent Emily Andrews, Meghan’s visit was met with “huge cheering and screams from excited students” who had gathered at the university to welcome her.
“So much is about having the support and scholarships and funding for students,” Meghan said during her meeting. “That was the reason I was able to attend university. At the same level you need to have that support on the inside to be able to give as much back to those in the education system.”
This is one of Meghan’s final stops on the tour of Africa, which will wrap up this week after just 10 days in the continent. Already, Meghan and Prince Harry – and baby Archie – have undertaken several appointments both together and separately, including a meeting with Archbishop Desmond Tutu during which fans got one of their first glimpses of Archie (in an adorable striped romper).
Here’s to more Archie sightings – and coat dresses – when the family arrives back in England this month.
