When we heard that Sex and the City's long-awaited prequel The Carrie Diaries was being brought to our TV screens, we couldn’t help but wonder who would be stepping into Sarah Jessica Parker’s fashionable shoes to play the young Carrie Bradshaw.
Everyone from Blake Lively to Elizabeth Olsen were rumoured to be taking the part of Carrie in Candace Bushnell’s young adult prequel to Sex and the City, which follows Miss Bradshaw during her high-school years in the 80s.
Over this weekend, the frenzied speculation finally came to an end when it was announced that relative newcomer AnnaSophia Robb (she’s had previous roles in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Bridge to Terabithia) would play the young Carrie.

With her petite frame and mass of frizzy blonde curls, it is easy to understand from the latest pictures of AnnaSophia on-set filming the pilot in New York ( above and below) why she seems a good fit for the role – and she’s even won the approval of SJP, who sent the young actress a letter of encouragement.
She's got the hair, she's got the clothes - but can AnnaSophia cut it as Carrie?

But surely an even tougher act to follow would be that of wardrobe; after all Patricia Field’s work on SATC made Carrie into the style icon she is today. Gossip Girl’s Emmy Award-winning costume designer Eric Daman will be the one taking on that essential role. Expect eye-popping colours, jumpsuits and jazzy earrings galore – it is set in the 80s after all!
