Mary Quant: the fashion world pays tribute to the iconic designer following her death aged 93

The iconic designer Mary Quant, credited for inventing the mini skirt and pioneering Swinging Sixties style, has passed away.
Mary Quant, the iconic fashion designer widely credited for inventing the mini skirt and pioneering Swinging Sixties style, has passed away aged 93. According to a statement from Quant’s family, she “passed away peacefully at her home in Surrey”.
It continued: “Dame Mary, aged 93, was one of the most internationally recognised fashion designers of the 20th century and an outstanding innovator of the Swinging Sixties.”

Quant was a self-taught designer and was best known for her high hemlines, short skirts and shift dresses that were made popular during a decade of cultural and social revolution in the UK.
The V&A museum, who recently hosted an exhibition of Quant’s designs, shared a tribute on Twitter, writing: “It’s impossible to overstate Quant’s contribution to fashion. She represented the joyful freedom of 1960s fashion, and provided a new role model for young women.
“Fashion today owes so much to her trailblazing vision.”
