To get us through the impending chill, the high street brands have taken it upon themselves to get us all excited about autumn/winter fashion. And no, we don’t just mean the new season drops that are coming in thick and fast, we talking about the amazing new designer collaborations that are standing out from the crowd. It was only last week we were telling you about the H&M x Rotate and Adidas x Farm Rio’s tropical print collection, and now there’s another one: Marks and Spencer x Bella Freud. 

Expected to cause a stampede to the online (and selected stores) checkouts, this is one of those collections that has brought instant joy to the Stylist office. The fashion team has been inundated with colleagues asking for a sneak peek at the upcoming collection to bookmark on their wishlists, and it’s certainly got everyone feeling very nostalgic, with updated versions of the much-loved logo knits making a welcome return. 

So behold… here is your first snippet of the new Bella Freud x Marks & Spencer collection that’s just landed. Cute, isn’t it? 

With ‘nature’, ‘divine female’, ‘honey’ and ‘blue sky’ knits to choose from in a merino wool blend (£49.50) or cashmere (£129), there’s a style to suit everyone. 

Rewind back to 2012, and the London label’s slogan sweaters were the most-worn items for so many celebrities – along with peplum tops, skinny jeans and bejewelled Peter Pan collars, of course. But let’s look back to the jumpers that dominated the likes of Kate Moss and Alexa Chung’s wardrobes around this time. 

The most instantly recognisable to most would be the 1970 knit (as seen on Kate, below) that Miranda Kerr and Poppy Delevingne have also previously worn. First launched in 2011, it made a comeback in 2021 and sold out within hours. The power of a great jumper, hey! And the good news is you can get the £355 knit from Bella Freud’s website once again. 

Alexa Chung also loved the ‘Je t’aime Jane’ version (a tribute to Jane Birkin, it now comes in candle form, FYI). and the presenter gave it a 60s spin back in 2012 with a mini skirt and ballet flats – we would style the slogan knits similarly for 2024. 

The truth is clear: Bella Freud’s slogan knits have had us all in a chokehold for over a decade now, so we’re not surprised to see one of our favourite high street heroes, M&S, team up with the designer to spread some sartorial happiness. 

If you thought it was just slogan knits in the new collaboration, think again. There’s also pinstripe suiting that you’ll want to wear for work with loafers (or with trainers at the weekend), beanie hats that’ll keep you cosy on your commute and slogan tote bags to help you lug your laptop into the office. 

No matter your style, we predict this new collection will have something for all – and it starts at just £15! Well done, Marks & Spencer.
