A woman so famous her name is now a verb, Marie Kondo's approach to tidying up is legendary.
And now the Japanese guru of de-cluttering has released showing how to follow her KonMari method so effectively that you will never have to re-organise your home again.
The video talks us through the key stages of organising our home and possessions.
First up, Kondo advises us all to change our approach to tidying. Most of us will start a clear up with the aim of getting rid of unwanted items but this, Kondo says, is wrong. Rather, we should be looking to keep the items that "spark joy".
As she says, "The most important thing about tidying up is thinking about what you would like to keep. If you have a desire to be someone who tidies up things very nicely, you have to change your mindset as well."
Next, Kondo gives us an order in which to tidy our possessions. Clothes take the first round, followed by books, documents, miscellaneous items and, finally, mementos.
"Every single item in your room has a place where they’re supposed to be stored," she instructs. "By working in this order you will improve your skills and your judgement."
Then Kondo moves onto her infamous method of folding, which she recommends for every item you plan to store. She folds jumpers, trousers, dresses and socks and puts the (enviably neat) piles into chic metal baskets that go in her wardrobe.
Finally, we are instructed to thank each item we plan to discard out loud, before removing them from our homes.
Kondo’s first book, The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up, spent over a year on The New York Times bestseller list and ignited a passion across the world for tidying.
