Luella Bartley’s beautiful new book

Here at Stylist we’re still mourning the disappearance of Luella Bartley’s cheeky, irreverent label (who else could create a collection titled “Daddy, I want a pony”?). Ever since she swapped the catwalk for the country life of Cornwall in 2009 there’s been a gaping gap in British fashion

But now – hooray - Luella’s back. Okay, her to-die-for bags and cute dresses won’t be tripping down the catwalk anytime soon, but she’s released something almost as exciting. A fresh, funny book titled Luella’s Guide to English Style.

Inside the chunky, vintage bindings this is a glorious romp, with chapters on everything from the British Bosom to Pretty in Pink. She celebrates key pieces from fashion’s past (remember the Fair Isle sweater and Pie-crust shirt?) and charts the Tribes of Brittania from Goths to Grunge.

But our favourites pages are those celebrating style icons, each illustrated with quirky coloured pencil illustrations. Alongside the usual stylish suspects Luella celebrates The Queen, Agatha Christie, Helena Bonham Carter and Kate Bush.

Rule Britannia!
