When it comes to the capital, the street style can rival the fashion on the catwalks. Here’s our edit of the top five trends seen outside the shows this season…
If there’s one thing we Brits do remarkably well, it’s dressing to impress – especially when fashion week comes around. Inside the shows, everyone’s a critic, while outside, everyone’s a photographer. The streets are littered with sartorial inspiration and this season was no different affair.
Pops of bright colour brightened up the rain-soaked streets outside the Old Selfridges Hotel, where people took shelter in a peacock-like manner.
Some opted for maximalist prints and hi-vis fluoros while others took a pared-back approach, hopping on the elevated minimalist trend with softer silhouettes and subdued shades. Sculptural jewellery, statement shoes and eyewear added a dash of panache to every outfit.
Ahead, we’ve gathered together the top five trends seen on the streets.
Statement shoes
From pearl-studded Crocs at Simone Rocha to JW Anderson’s reimagined moccasin heels, high-impact shoes stormed the London catwalks this season. For a punky yet prim look, stick a needle in it like Jawara Alleyne’s safety-pin heels. Or follow in the footsteps of those who attended the shows and opted to wear studded flats (take a look at the dreamy Alaïa crystal-encrusted ballets below) to pad from show to show in comfort.

Teeny tiny bags
One of the downsides of carrying an itsy-bitsy bag is having full hands. It’s a style we’re willing to commit to though when it comes to fashion week.

Rebellious red
Heating up the spring/summer 2024 collections, London designers are painting the town (and catwalks) with shades of scarlet, ruby and carmine. No surprise, then, that those on the streets are also following suit, making a fiery statement in strappy crimson maxi dresses.

Get hooked
Crochet has had a resurgence on the catwalks this season to add a touch of texture to your look. Take a leaf out of Holzweiler’s book– the Norweigan label’s spring/summer 2024 collection boasted an array of knitted looks, paired with baggy light-wash denim jeans, halter neck tops, skinny repurposed scarves and over-the-shoulder bags.

Feeling blue
After Barbie pink, strawberry girl red and quiet luxury beige, it would seem blue shades will be shaking up our wardrobes. Those on the street can’t get enough of the colour – taking inspiration from the striking jolts of cobalt at Roksanda, baby blue and cool-toned lavender at Talia Byre and azure hues at Burberry.
