As the spring/summer 2024 shows wrap up in the capital, here’s your London Fashion Week digest.

London Fashion Week started with a bang at the Theatre Royal (the prelude came a day earlier at Harris Reed) with red-carpet appearances from Victoria Beckham, Sienna Miller, Sir Ian McKellen and Anna Wintour herself.

Soundtracked by Skepta’s unreleased beats and a pitter-patter of chatter over the imminent return of Phoebe Philo, the city has been a hive of excitement and creativity this past week.

We were all thrilled when inflatable kettlebell pants danced down the catwalk at Hari, while JW Anderson boasted sculpted clay-like clothes with Roblox-level shoulders and boxy shorts.

It was a season of seconds as Daniel Lee pitched up at the park in his second outing at Burberry (featuring no Bottega green but plenty of swamp goddess lip stain) and Di Petsa showcased her second collection following her debut show-come-art performance last season. But it was Mia Khalifa’s first time to walk a show, making her model debut at Knwls in a clinging two-piece.

From frocks and Crocs at Simone Rocha to (more than 16) sequin sparkle looks at 16Arlington, this season was electric. “Everyone is a star,” boasted Ashish as public service announcements walked down the catwalk and a model tossed and turned in a giant swan bed. No sleep for the wicked… now that’s a wrap!

We’ve teamed together all the best bits from this season’s fashion week extravaganza – take a look for yourself below.

The ultimate must-drop names

As BFC Newgen continues to celebrate 30 years of young, emerging creative talent, these are the designers everyone is talking about this season…

Tolu Coker

Yesterday, Tolu Coker presented her debut show, a celebration of her familial history and Yoruba roots. We’re excited to see what’s still to come from the British Nigerian rising star.

Sinead O’Dwyer

Sinead O’Dwyer is a Dublin-born designer at the forefront of body-inclusive garments. This time around, she traded the catwalk for her old classroom at the Royal College of Art to showcase her collection— a rally against exclusivity and sample-sizing in the industry.

Chet Lo

Fashion’s forever rebel child, Chet Lo always brings a little spike and spunk to the London shows. This year was no different, as the Asian American looks inward, taking inspiration from the subjects he thought were taboo growing up. We’re obsessed with the seductive serpent headdresses.

The reunions (Psst! The supers are in London)

Yes, you heard correctly – the original supermodels were back on the catwalk at Vogue World. In glittering gowns, Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington, Cindy Crawford and Linda Evangelista reunited ahead of their highly anticipated Apple TV+ documentary, The Super Models, which premiered last night.

Even more reunions… returning designers

All hail A Sai – he’s here to stay

When A Sai Tai returned to the catwalks last February after a three-year hiatus, everyone was excited, and this season garnered the same buzzy reaction. Boasting fierce looks, models stormed the runway in woven mesh elasticated dresses and stringy swimwear in hi-vis orange, punchy purple and hot pink.

Superstar Supriya

Two years after her last collection, Indian British designer Supriya Lele is back in the fashion arena (she’s been busy founding her own art gallery, Qrystal Partners). You’ll likely have seen her stringy skin-tight staples worn by the likes of Dua Lipa, Rihanna and FKA twigs.

Mains

Louis Theroux met Stormzy (again) at Mains, Skepta’s relaunched fashion brand. Over at Burberry, there was Burna Boy, Wizkid, Michael Ward, Barry Keoghan and Kylie Minogue getting their trench-coat fix. And it wouldn’t be London Fashion Week without one or two sightings of Britain’s eternal It girl Alexa Chung, who was spotted wearing an Elvis Presley dress alongside Chloe Cherry at Ashley Williams. Who could forget Kanye West at Mowalola? The rapper wore a full black-out balaclava while Bianca Censori, his wife, went wild in a furry white wig.

A feast for the eyes

Besides lobster and gin, Matty Bovan served up a decadent platter of tactile corset dresses at his supper club. At Ashish, pineapples replaced handbags, while soft-serve was eaten in the rain at Holzweiler. Over in north London, Burberry took over Norman’s Cafe for an upmarket greasy spoon grub affair.
