Centred on the four March sisters, Little Women is the tale of self-discovery, sacrifice and sisterhood. A story so popular it’s been reimagined for television, theatre and film countless times. And the latest iteration has just been announced: a film by Greta Gerwig starring Emma Watson, Saoirse Ronan, Eliza Scanlen and Florence Pugh, playing Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy March respectively.
And whilst our affections for Winona Ryder, Kirsten Dunst and Claire Danes live on, the new trailer of Gerwig’s project promises big things (naturally this prospect of another Saoirse and Timothée collaboration sent the clip into the viral sphere almost immediately) especially when it comes to the fashion in the film.
Who knew so many spring/summer trends could be ticked off in a 2 minutes and 34 seconds? So good are the looks, that we predict Little Women is about to keep these four trends alive well after the sun has set on the summer months.
Prairie Dresses
You can’t speak of the All-American classic without conjuring images of the March women gathered in the most picture-perfect prairie dresses. Long in length, ruffled, often sporting chintzy florals and certainly modest (this is an absolute must), this style of dress has been given the fashion seal of approval from cult brand Batsheva, Alexander McQueen and Vampire’s Wife. And now the zeitgeist has sealed its fate too.

Known for their prairie style dresses, Batsheva has become something of a cult classic. From fashion week to wedding dressing, the industry’s most stylish women have coveted these dresses and now in honour of Little Women it’s your turn to get on board.

Peasant Blouses
Much like the prairie dress, the peasant blouse has a wholesome feel to it. Smocked in cotton and often sporting a ruffle or two, the peasant blouse has become a wardrobe staple. Easily worn with denim, and equally just as easily worn with a trouser suit – allowing the peasant blouse to have universal appeal. We’ll be marching to the beat of the March drum with this one.

Full Skirts
We have seen a huge shift towards a more covered length when it comes to skirts. (Seriously, though when did you last buy a mini skirt?) From silk bias cut midi skirts, to fitted column skirts, tiered maxi skirts and mid-shin full skirts - our wardrobes are forever grateful for such skirt game. But it’s the full skirts – the ones that are made for swooshing that Little Women will be championing for the rest of the year. Wear with a tucked in t-shirt, or play the skirt drama down with a cropped sweatshirt and ankle boots.
Little Women Fashion: Full Skirts - Joseph
Taking on elements of the silk midi skirt phenomenon… but make it Little Women. We will be wearing this Joseph skirt all year long.

Straw Hats
Ok, granted this one could be hard to pull off in the deep depths of winter, but we are still backing this one as a holiday must-have beyond the summer months. Straw hats have been having a big social media moment thanks to the popularity of that Jacquemus straw hat but the official Little Women line is boater style with a gingham ribbon wrapped around. Just watch the likes come rolling in.
