Animal print is up 156% across the autumn/winter catwalks, and the high street has received the memo.

We’ve been riding the Y2K wardrobe wave for quite some time now, with highlights including kitten heels, bubble skirts and the return of chic capri pants. However, leopard print is perhaps the most dominating look to pop back up in recent months.

According to fashion search engine Tagwalk, animal print is up by 156% across the autumn/winter runway compared to the previous year’s collections, and leopard is one of the most popular patterns. So, Team Stylist set out to see what the high street had to offer, and we ended up adding plenty of pieces to our autumn wishlists.

Stylist’s fashion director Lucy Reber found a chic quilted leopard jacket in Nobody’s Child, which pairs perfectly with jeans, a simple slip dress or a trending maxi skirt; Amy Beecham sought out a cosy cardi from Allsaints; and Sarah Jones got her hands on the bestselling Ganni leopard print jeans, which have recently been restocked.

So, if you’re tempted to step into Scary Spice’s style, know that we’ve done the heavy lifting and you can head straight to the checkout.

Amy Beecham, senior writer

“Leopard print is a little out of my usual fashion comfort zone, but pairing such a bold cardigan with neutral jeans and trainers was the perfect way to try the trend in a way that still felt true to my more minimal style.”

Jess Lockett wears white waistcoat leopard print trousers

Jess Lockett, art director

“Ever since Ganni’s leopard print top and trousers went viral, I’ve been on the hunt for a more affordable high street dupe. I love the denim material of these, and the print itself is chic – I often find it hard to find a leopard print pattern on the high street I like. These have a wide-leg cut, and I’m really into that for autumn.”

Sarah Jones wears leopard jeans and white T-shirt

Sarah Jones, senior campaign producer

“I have been wanting leopard print trousers since Damson Madder sold out and this Ganni pair is the perfect alternative. The relaxed cargo style makes them comfortable to wear and they look great with a plain T-shirt and trainers, but the drawstring tie at the ankles means you could dress them up with black ballet pumps, while still feeling relaxed.”

“With a lot of the leopard print pieces out there, the print is the USP, and otherwise it’s a pretty standard style and silhouette. This one, however, was fun because the shape of the top was playful and the print was just a bonus.”
