Luxury underwear store La Perla came under fire late Monday evening for using mannequins with protruding ribs to display their garments.
A picture was posted on Twitter by user Michael Rudoy (@mrudoy), who spotted the offending mannequin in the shop window of La Perla's SoHo store in New York.
Seth Matlins, who is an advocate for Truth in Advertising, also got involved and tweeted this response to Michael's original post:
Thankfully, La Perla acted quickly, and responded with the following statement:
"The mannequin photographed has been removed from the store and will not be used again by any La Perla boutique."
"We are in the process of redesigning all La Perla stores with a new concept image and the mannequins that are currently displayed in our US stores will no longer be used. We appreciate and value everyone's comments, thank you for bringing this to our attention."
This isn't the first time a store has been criticised for its portrayal of extreme skinniness when promoting their items.
In March, Target (essentially the US version of Primark) caused outrage when they photoshopped a teen's thighs to ensure there was an obvious thigh gap.
While the mistake was clear (when you looked closely enough), it's still worrying to see that an already slim girl is being slimmed down even further.
