Why fashion fans keep coming back for Khaite, one of New York Fashion Week’s favourite labels

Katie Holmes, Kendall Jenner and Meghan Markle are all lovers of the luxury label, and it’s easy to see why.
Fashion month is famous for highlighting the big hitters: Prada, Gucci and Fendi, to name but a few. Yet the luxury labels that fashion editors truly favour and often splurge significant amounts of our paychecks in pursuit of, aren’t always the huge household names. And New York-based brand Khaite is a perfect example.
Standing out as a highlight of the New York Fashion Week schedule this season, Khaite showcased its spring/summer 2025 collection in the centre of the city to industry experts and famous faces including Anna Wintour, Susie Lau and Eva Chen.
As expected, it was undeniably chic, and if you thought the sheer trend wouldn’t quite tie in with a more formal feel, you’d find yourself mistaken. Think subtle see-through black blouses under blazers, neutral sheer trousers beneath straight-cut tunics and translucent tights that offer a hint of sheen. Plus, we were shown a simplistic colour palette of creams, blacks, pale pinks and one pop of red, proving that shades needn’t be striking to make an impact when paired with the right materials.
The three key takeaways? The sharp focus on structure with sharp tailoring taking centre stage; the mixing of materials, as lightweight chiffon contrasted with chunky crochet and plenty of soft silk finds; and the brand’s love for great leather. So expect to see these three styling trends start to trickle down into our wardrobes next season, just like the knitted co-ord that shot the brand to fashion fame.

For those who keep a keen eye on celebrity styling, you might already be familiar with the piece I’m talking about: the co-ordinating knitted bra and cardigan set worn by Katie Holmes that shot Khaite to fame, starting a trend that was quickly picked up by the high street. The brand has since racked up an impressive number of celebrity fans, including Meghan Markle, Hailey Bieber, Beyoncé and a huge number of keen-eyed fashion lovers. But, matching knitwear aside, what is the big appeal?
Well, its key trick is in being timeless. As Khaite founder Catherine Holstein told Vogue Business, it’s “a line of don’t-call-them-basics in cotton, denim, leather and cashmere”. This means the pieces can become part of your everyday wardrobe, easily elevating any outfit with minimal effort. Additionally, Holstein certainly knows her customers, sharing that the brand is built on wardrobe items women want: older customers reach towards cosy knits and outerwear while a younger audience sticks to the more affordable accessories.
So think of Khaite pieces as investments you’ll get plenty of wear from, unlike a pair of shoes you save up for and maybe wear once or twice. Take inspiration from the runway and recreate the looks at home with plenty of leather, neutral shades and a stylistic twist on an everyday outfit.
