The best sort of trend isn’t a flash in the pan, something that’s over before it’s even begun. Instead, it’s something that builds and grows from season to season. A trend that will slot in with what we already own, adding a sprinkle of newness along with the promise of being able to wear it for seasons to come.

This is why I am thrilled to see some familiar trends on the horizon for autumn/winter 2024. We know our old favourite boho is back with Chemena Kamali’s captivating debut show at Chloé. And familiar trends – bold red, leopard, ballet pumps and statement earrings – are all firmly staying on the agenda. The great thing about these is that they exist already in our trend landscape. So, we can buy high street versions now, and we’ll still be wearing them through autumn and beyond. With the weather finally playing ball, I’ve got my fingers crossed for a balmy autumn season, and with a bit of clever styling, these pieces will do you for the winter months too.

Animal print is a core look these days, with some using it as a ‘neutral’ in their wardrobes, but it is on the rise for autumn/winter 2024. The fashion search engine Tagwalk noted a 75% rise in leopard print looks compared to the same period last year. Red took over from pink as the colour to champion, but it’s still going strong and is set to stay put for the rest of the year, with designers from Ahluwalia to Erdem championing this punchy hue.

For accessories, the ballet shoe has been a major player since Miu Miu introduced its iconic satin styles in 2016. It is a trend that has been steadily building for eight years, yet still Tagwalk noted a 70% rise in ballerina shoes on the catwalk this season v the autumn/winter 2023 shows. Finally, bold earring remains a key accessory for autumn/winter 2024, with everyone from Schiaparelli to Valentino sending statement examples down their catwalks.
