Not just the driving force behind the Chanel label, Karl Lagerfeld is also regularly cited as a fashion icon in his own right, lauded for his strict fashion uniform of monochromatic colours and a high-collared shirt.
Now Karl has taken his high-collar obsession and turned it into a special one-off piece which went on sale exclusively at Net-a-porter.com today. “I’m renowned for my love of a high collar,” said Lagerfeld. “I wanted to create a true collector’s item with this one-off piece. Merging the masculine with the feminine and uniting the world of fine jewellery and high fashion, to me this collar is a work of art and a real show-stopper.”
Certainly a show-stopper in comparison to your average shirt collar, Lagerfeld’s metallic leather collar is set with over a thousand 40-carat black diamonds and features a stunning 22.33-carat emerald at the neck. As you can imagine, being the only one in the world, Karl’s collar is not cheap - the exclusive design costs £29,000, with a percentage of profits from the sale being donated to the children’s cancer charity CLIC Sargent.
For those lacking in a lottery win, the collar will also be on display at Masterpiece London as part of jewellery writer Carol Woolton's Brilliant exhibition from June 28 until July 4.
What do you think? Would you pay £29,000 for Karl Lagerfeld's collar if you had the money, and where would you wear it? Tell us your thoughts on Twitter or in the comments below
