No, it's not April Fool's day, you read that headline right. Wikileaks founder, Julian Assange is set to make his catwalk debut at London Fashion Week this September.

Assange will apparently be modelling for Ben Westwood at a fashion show that will be taking place at the Ecuadorean Embassy, where he has been seeking refuge for the past two years.

The political fugitive, who is avoiding being extradited back to Sweden for questioning over sex offence claims, will walk down the catwalk along with six other models.

The collection, created by Vivienne Westwood's oldest son, is inspired by Assange's combat-beret style as well as Clint Eastwood westerns, and will be soundtracked by music from The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Westwood said: "Julian’s been in the embassy for two years and it’s important that he doesn’t slip into obscurity"

“I want to highlight Julian Assange’s plight. What happened to him is totally unfair.”

He also divulged some information on the clothes that he'll be showing at the event saying that his designs are directly influenced by Assange:

"I’ve got a garment with a Julian Assange print," the designer revealed.

It's been no secret that Ben's mother, legendary fashion designer Vivienne Westwood has been a staunch supporter of Assange and his plight, and even created pro-Julian Assange t-shirts for her guests to wear front row at her London Fashion Week show in September 2012.

However, Assange isn't well-known for being a fashion darling, with his ghost-writer, author Andrew o’Hagan, noting how he once wore a pair of suit trousers over a pair of Tesco tracksuit bottoms.

But in typical fashion week style, the event is set to be attended by celebrities, including George Clooney and his new fiancée, human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin, who acted on Assange's defence team.

Stylist contacted the British Fashion Council for comment, who replied with the following:

"The British Fashion Council does not organise model castings for London Fashion Week therefore are unable to shed light on the story."
