The Baftas 2025: pastel tones take over the red carpet, here’s how to wear them

From butter lemon to sea foam green, the standout trend was pretty pastel shades at the annual film awards. See the very best celebrity looks and find out how to wear the key hues.

At the 78th British Academy Film Awards (Baftas), Hollywood’s brightest stars gathered at London’s Royal Festival Hall to celebrate the best in film. Stars including Isabella Rossellini, Demi Moore, Georgia Tennant and Selena Gomez were among the A-listers in attendance, bringing a mix of talent, glamour and style to the annual event.

While the focus was on the awards ceremony itself, the red carpet offered plenty of unforgettable fashion moments including all-white dresses, sparkling diamanté embellishments and deep V-neck gowns. But one trend truly stood out above the rest: pastel shades

From baby pink to light jolts of lilac and heather, these dreamy tones brought a fresh take to winter dressing and hinted at a more playful mood for the spring season ahead.

As Stylist’s fashion director Lucy Reber notes, “what’s so chic about the pastel trend for the Baftas this year is how delicate the hues are – they feel very elegant for day-to-day wear, especially when paired with clean line silhouettes which make for low-key, red carpet perfection.”

Opt for clean silhouettes

For those keen to try pastels but unsure where to start, the key is to keep things simple and understated. A great way to do this is through your choice of silhouette. The more streamlined and clean-cut, the sleeker your look will feel.

Take inspiration from Anora star Mikey Madison, who wore a stunning butter-lemon Prada dress. The strapless, floor-length design featured a single chic sash, creating a subtle look.

To keep your outfit feeling polished, go for minimal styling. Keep your hairstyle understated – either worn down, as Madison did, or slicked back into a wet-look ponytail.

Add sea foam green shades

One standout shade to note is sea foam green. This fresh tone is a key colour trend this season, offering a lovely alternative to classic soft pastels. It’s subtle yet striking when worn in a minimal way, as seen with Saoirse Ronan wearing a custom Louis Vuitton gown.

You could also consider sequin sparkles for a more standout look, like Stacy Martin. The Brutalist actress also wore a custom Louis Vuitton dress in sea foam green, but one that was more embellished with sparkling flower details.

Try layering sheer separates

Sheer dressing has been making waves on the spring/summer 2025 catwalks and it’s no surprise that pastels are being incorporated into this style.

We love how Radhika Apte has hopped on the sheer separate trend wearing a simple heather hued shift and trousers.  It’s proof that you needn’t always resort to gowns and dresses when it comes to event dressing.

Experiment with colour blocking

Colour blocking is a fun and bold way to elevate your look. While pastels can sometimes feel soft and delicate, adding a contrasting colour can really make your outfit pop. We’ll be taking notes from Ariana Grande with her pretty pink and black combo, designed by Louis Vuitton and inspired by her Wicked character, Glinda.
