How to wear neutrals

Nude tones are the elegant alternative to this season's bold colours and prints. If the thought of wearing neutral shades leaves you feeling washed out, take heed as Stylist's Fashion Assistant Morag Paterson advices how to incorporate neutrals into your wardrobe, inspired by the spring/summer catwalks shows that gave birth to the trend.

BODYAMR

BodyAmr cleverly contrasted ruched and sheer silk textures to break up the simplicity and add interest.

MAXMARA

Contrasting neutral hues were used at Maxmara. This look is styled with a pair of bright shoes to break up the tones.

DKNY

Add the finishing touch with a touch of colour at the neck and darker accessories, as seen at DKNY.

JAEGER

Layering is key this season. Use different lengths and textures to build your look.

DEREK LAM

Maxi lengths dominate this season. Derek Lam opted for a low key colour with soft flowing lines.

JULIEN MACDONALD

The underwear as outerwear slip dress makes it return this season in sheer floaty layers. Opt for neutral hues to add a feminine vibe.

ANTIONIO BERARDI

Use embellishment such as flowers, pearls and frayed edges for a more glamorous evening look.

GUCCI

Use neutral shoes and accessories to finish off your look. Tonal shoes will lengthen legs.

CHLOE

Sleek pleating at Chloe was a nod to this season’s ballet trend. Texture and movement are key to achieving this look.

TODD LYNN

Keep legs bare or nude as dark opaque tight will be too heavy a contrast with the neutrals.
