From layered to minimal and monochrome, all-black outfits are the perfect low-effort fix when dressing for this time of year. Read our edit of the best styles that won’t leave you looking like Morticia Addams.

November brings with it a lot of those tricky ‘What do I wear? moments, whether you’re dealing with surprise showers or biting gusts of wind. It’s why I’ve been embracing easy-to-throw-together, all-black outfits whenever I don’t know what to wear. No matter if I’m layering cosy black sweaters, sleek coats or comfy leggings, black pieces make braving the elements fashionable and fuss-free. Better still, opting to wear all-black often allows you to use what’s already in your wardrobe, so there’s rarely any need for additional shopping (a win-win, right?).

On the surface, defaulting to a minimalist monochrome outfit might seem like it lacks excitement, but there’s no reason it has to be boring. This subtle tone packs a punch when done right, and according to fashion analyst Madé Lapuerta (@DataButMakeItFashion), who reviews thousands of online posts for trends, it’s ever so chic for the cool-weather season.

If you’re seeking some style inspiration, keep scrolling. From layered leather to sporty and sleek, I’ve rounded up my favourite all-black winter street-style outfits to help you elevate your cold-weather wardrobe

The best all-black looks to wear in 2024

Turn on the texture

Although black is a striking shade, it can be harsh. But fear not, there are endless layering options and textures to play with when it comes to all-black looks – from buttery leather jackets (see Lydia Tsegay’s below) to fluffy cashmere jumpers – these will make your look more tactile and sculptural. Mixing and matching in monochrome with fabrics like satin, velvet and wool will help you create head-turning outfits that feel fresh, no matter what your mood.

Add some sportswear

Whether you’re a gym bunny, a dedicated runner or prefer comfort over cardio (like me), you can embrace the sports luxe trend in matching black shades. See below, and give your leggings and hoodies a new lease of life beyond the treadmill.

Wearing athleisurewear in sleek monochromatic shades really can give you a cooler edge. The best part? All-black activewear is also incredibly practical too – perfect for everything from running errands to casual coffee dates.

Amp up the accessories

One of the best parts about an all-black look is its ability to serve as a blank canvas for accessories and statement pieces. It will give you panache without overpowering your look with lots of excess colour. Experiment with standout pieces in winter hues like a structured burgundy bag or wine-red ribbed socks (see Rose Dalkiran, below.) So chic.
