Guaranteed to make you feel nostalgic, Adidas trousers are here to give your jeans a rest (yes, to that elasticated waist!).
Around this time last year, Alexa Chung posted a picture of herself wearing Adidas tracksuit bottoms, and the rest, shall we say, is history. Making a strong case for the casual trousers to be seen as a staple smart separate – at least when paired with a crisp white shirt, a classic black tailored coat and kitten heels (yes, really) – the British style icon made us all want to dig out our favourite comfy trousers. Previously an integral part of everyone’s wardrobes back in the 90s and 00s (thanks, Mel C), the iconic triple-stripe trousers have remained popular ever since. They’ve since been worn by the likes of Rihanna and even Victoria Beckham when she was in her Adidas Superstar trainers phase circa 2018.
Once seen on celebrities who favoured wearing them with a matching track top (which isn’t to say that you can’t do this now), we’re now all about styling the tracksuit bottoms in the same way you would your favourite jeans or wide-leg trousers. Basically, you should be using them as a simple separate that will go with the other timeless items in your wardrobe.

Influencer Lucy Williams (below) has worn her pair in a similar manner to Alexa, adding a long black coat and a cosy grey cardigan. It keeps the trousers looking polished, and we love how she has stayed with the sporty vibe by adding some Solomon chunky trainers.
If you want your striped trousers to remain firmly on the smart side, a blazer is always a brilliant item to style them with. This street styler has taken her vibrant red pair into evening territory by adding lashings of gold jewellery and high heels, but they would look equally chic with a pair of trainers or loafers and a roll-neck top.

If you’re feeling daring, take some tips from these women (below) and try the juxtaposed look of sporty trousers worn with delicate lace dresses and ruffle tops. With Chloé bringing back the boho trend in a big way for spring/summer 2025, this should be easy to copy and paste from your own wardrobe.

No matter how you style side-stripe trousers, there are pairs in every colour from Adidas, along with iterations from many other brands, including Hush and M&S.
And with Adidas items (yes, we mean Sambas) taking over everyone’s wardrobes, we expect these trousers to be the next It item. Now you’ve got some inspiration on how to wear them, keep going to see some of our favourite pairs.

Adidas Originals x Wales Bonner striped recycled-jersey track pants
The Adidas x Wales Bonner collabs are known to sell out at record speed, so this classic navy and blue pair likely won’t stick around for long. A top tip is to also check Vinted and Depop to get styles from previous edits for a fraction of the price.

Adidas Originals Adicolor Firebird loose track tracksuit
Who knew brown and yellow could look so good? The retro pairing is made to be worn with a cosy grey jumper or a vest top come spring. You can also get these in tall and petite lengths to ensure you get the right fit. You can even personalise them with your name.

Hush Harrison side-stripe jogger
The side-stripe joggers from Hush are so good that they made them in not one, not two but seven colourways. Although we also love the red and burgundy pairs, this soft sage green feels so fresh and will work with so many new season spring outfits.
Marks & Spencer jersey wide-leg side-stripe trousers
What we love most about M&S trousers is that nearly all pairs are available in three different lengths, so it’s easier to find the perfect fit. This black pair with a burgundy and cream stripe is a way to ease into the trend without being full-on sporty.

Me+Em convertible side-stripe trousers
Who remembers the popper and zip-up styles? Well, the zip pairs are back thanks to Me+Em, and they’re a whole lot chicer than you may remember. Keep the look simple with a T-shirt, blazer and trainers for work or weekends.
