Whether you choose the classic mini Ugg boot or the more modern platform style, the street style set has spoken: chestnut is the key colour.
Love them or loathe them, Ugg boots are one of autumn’s favourite fashion finds, yet they don’t come without controversy. While some people love the cosiness of the shearling shoe, turning to slipper-style Tasmans, trainer-like Lowmels or the classic short boots, while others believe the snuggly styles should never be seen outside of our homes, causing an Ugg-shaped rift between two distinct sets of fashion fan.
This season, however, it seems that Ugg lovers are succeeding in putting the shoe back in the limelight, as according to the fashion trend page Data But Make It Fashion (@databutmakeitfashion), mini Uggs increased in popularity by 8.7% at the first sign of autumn.
Mini Uggs look, as the name suggests, like a smaller version of the original boot style, hitting the ankle so the full leg is on show. They’ve been spotted in street-style snaps at London, Paris and Milan fashion weeks, so there’s plenty of inspiration when it comes to styling them.
Turning to tailoring, stylist Sonia Lyson put a more formal spin on the platform boots with straight-leg trousers, a tight-fit turtleneck and a cosy coat, creating a real winter-warming outfit. A very chic guest at Copenhagen Fashion Week made the case for wearing mini Uggs with a midi skirt, and podcast host Karin Teigl proved the ankle-length boots can work with all colours, styling them with both pink-coloured camo trousers and a vibrant purple outfit.
Clearly, they can work for all occasions. Keep scrolling for extra outfit inspiration, and let’s not forget they’re one of the most comfortable shoes to wear as well.

Stick to one shade
If you’re looking to add extra colour to your wardrobe but aren’t too sure where to start, colour blocking is the styling trick to adopt. Simply split your wardrobe into shades and start mixing and matching pieces within the same section, whether it’s a yellow skirt with a yellow shirt, blue jeans with a blue jumper or purple cargos with a similar shade of knit. The result is striking and easy to achieve, and chestnut-coloured mini Uggs work with a huge variety of shades, making them one of the most versatile shoes to own.

Turn to tailoring
Uggs are known to be a more laidback shoe, often offering comfort over style. However, Sonia Lyson is here to help shift this mindset by pairing the platform mini Uggs with a formal-looking fit. Opting for a straight-leg suit trouser, tight-fitting turtleneck and faux fur coat, suddenly the shearling shoe seems much more office-appropriate, even if it’s just for the commute home.

Add extra volume
As the mini Ugg boots are so short, they work well with all kinds of trousers, particularly those with a stronger emphasis on shape. To create a more volume-filled look, lean into the likes of big, baggy cargos or anything with a draw-string ankle, such as this pink camo print pair. Then, to emphasise the look, turn to sculptural tops or knits and layer over a waistcoat to add more interest.

Make space for a midi skirt
When styling Uggs, your first thought may be to turn to trousers – specifically jeans or joggers for that signature laid-back look. One chic guest at Copenhagen Fashion Week made a strong case for a midi skirt, and we’re on board. To soften the gap between the platform mini Ugg boots and the bottom of the skirt, they added tights and socks to add extra interest and kept to a minimalist black-and-white colour palette, allowing the boots to take centre stage. So, we’d encourage anyone attempting this style to observe the same two tricks: stick to simple shades and add extra accessories to any leg on show.

Clash colours
While sticking to one shade will work for some, those with a more daring sense of style may want to make a statement. It’s time to clash colours. Proving yet again the versatility of the chestnut Ugg shade is this pink and green look, leaning into a maximalist style with attention-grabbing feather sleeves. It’s also quite practical, thanks to the comfy and cosy choice of footwear. So, if you want to create an eye-catching look that’s as comfy as it is chic, mini Ugg boots are up for the challenge.
