Unsure how to wear leopard print for 2024? Elevate your tips for styling the bold print with advice straight from the Stylist Live catwalk.
Like jam and cream, winter and leopard print go hand-in-hand. Each year, the bold animal print makes a comeback in some form, but for 2024, it’s back in a huge way. Spotted (pun intended) all over the autumn/winter 2024 catwalks, we saw leopard print skirts at Christian Dior, billowing blouses at Zimmermann, and Versace ticked off two trends in one with leopard print jumpers in scarlet red. It’s safe to say that the print we all know and love is here to liven up the dullest of days this winter. But how to style it in real life?
This is where the Stylist Live catwalk comes in to offer a lesson on how to wear leopard print for 2024, and it’s easier than you might think. The fashion world has coined the print as the ‘new neutral’, which means you can wear the print in much the same way as you would style tonal shades of beige, tan or cream.
Whether it’s by adding a bold coat over wardrobe staples, switching trusty denim for leopard print trousers or going bold with leopard print maxi dresses, here are eight ways to style the season’s key print for any occasion.
8 ways to wear leopard print
Update your outerwear
The coat is the outfit! With outerwear so statement, what lies beneath is so easy to style as you barely even have to pay attention to it. But a knit midi dress is always a good option.
Trench, £199, Albaray (albaray.co.uk)
Try out bold trousers
Leopard print jeans and trousers are dominating the most stylish of wardrobes this season. To try it out, wear this cropped Sézane pair with timeless black boots and a denim jacket worn as a shirt.
Jacket, £89, French Connection (frenchconnection.com)
Go for a nice top
A ‘nice top’ is often accompanied by jeans, but for autumn/winter 2024, try it out with a denim skirt instead. To complete the efffortless ensemble, simply add a pair of this season’s most-loved boots: suede.
Blouse, £29, Next (next.co.uk)
Skirt, £89, Monsoon (monsoon.co.uk)
Dare to go top-to-toe
Go big or go home, right? If you’re feeling brave when it comes to new season outfits, then embrace the print in full – an easy-to-style shirt dress and printed knee-high boots will do the trick. Tip: just make sure the base of each print is a similar tone, eg beige, like these two.
Style with wardrobe staples
If you’re unsure how to style leopard print, simply go back to basics and wear a classic outfit (like this black dress and boots) with one item in print. And where can you find this entire look? All at Tu at Sainsbury’s online (or via your weekly food shop).
Coat, £45, Tu (tuclothing.sainsburys.co.uk)
Match your accessories to your dress
Can we all just take a moment to gaze upon this leopard print maxi dress that could easily be mistaken for a designer find? In fact, it’s under £50 – yes, really! For an evening look, just add a matchy-matchy bag and heels. So chic.
Dress, £48, River Island (riverisland.com)
Earrings, £130, Pandora (pandora.net)
Bag, £9, Primark (in-store)
Add a fun jacket to jeans
For running errads, heading to work or even a brunch look, you’ll want to copy this failsafe formula. Baggy jeans + blouse + leopard print jacket = the perfect outfit. Add matching animal print pumps for extra style points.
Jacket, £40, Tu at Sainsbury’s (in-store)
Blouse, £59, Monsoon (monsoon.co.uk)
Break up print with a classic coat
If going top-to-toe print feels too daunting, then stick to the rule of one item to break it up. If you’re out and about, a clean-lined classic coat like this trench will work. If you’re in the office or at a dinner, a blazer or even a cashmere jumper over the dress would be a nice option.
Trench, £169, John Lewis (johnlewis.com)
Bag, £249, Kurt Geiger (kurtgeiger.com)
Shoes, £16, Primark (in-store)
