We want to tell simple ways to be more sustainable, while saving money, and it’s all thanks to some of our favourite high street brands.
While fashion can never truly be sustainable, there are some steps we can all take to be more conscious about our clothing choices. More recently, this has become somewhat easier, thanks in part to the high street, so we want to shout about some of the simple ways we can all make better choices.
A few months back, Arket Archive was launched. The new platform allows you to sell your unwanted Arket items and buy secondhand Arket pieces for a fraction of the original retail price. It’s also become the place to go to find those sell-out pieces you missed out on the first time around.
When it comes to in-store, the Re.Uniqlo Studio is the place to repair or alter your favourite Uniqlo buys. If you’re London-based, you can also head to H&M’s Regent Street store for a one-to-one rental service, where you can be styled by the experts and borrow an outfit for an upcoming event.
Keep going to find out more about how the high street is giving back.

Listed under ‘resale’ in the women’s, men’s and children’s menus online, you might not have spotted Arket’s Archive section, but it’s worth knowing about. Including nearly new coats, shoes, bags and jeans for a lot less than the original price, it’s a brilliant place to find secondhand Arket buys. And if you have some of your own, you can list them on the platform and get 100% of the resale price as an Arket voucher to spend online or 70% back as cash. Making sure your unwanted clothes go to a new home is important, so we love Arket’s new service.

Uniqlo Alterations

If you head to certain Uniqlo stores, you’ll be able to find the Japanese label’s Re.Uniqlo Studios. Here, you’ll be able to take your new Uniqlo buys to be tailored to make sure they fit you properly – meaning you’re guaranteed to get more wear out of them. And if you have clothes from other brands that need repairing – fix a hole, bobble removal or even just replace buttons – you’ll can get them done from just £2. If you look after the clothes you love, you’re bound to love them for a lot longer.

H&M Rental

Launched in 2022, H&M’s Rental service is available exclusively in London’s Regent Street store. Home to archive collections from its designer collaborations and the sell-out Studio drops, you can borrow the outfit of your dreams for an upcoming wedding, party or date night. Renting a look instead of buying is a more circular way to get dressed: it will save you money and you can wear an outfit you might not necessarily want to splurge on.
Go to hm.com to book your consultation slot, pop in-store to speak to an expert, rent your outfit for up to seven days (from £15) and H&M will even take care of the dry cleaning for you.
