From rich leathers to cool cords, these are the dresses you’ll want to add to your wishlist.
If you struggle to decide what to wear in the morning, you’re not alone. It takes us an average of 17 minutes to choose an outfit, and if your ensemble creation process looks anything like ours, the result is a heap of discarded options and a distinct sense that the whole thing should have been easier.
This is where dresses come in. As obvious as it sounds, the very fact that they are one item of clothing makes getting ready infinitely simpler. Particularly for autumn, when the temperatures are as changeable as our sartorial inspiration, they offer the chance to easily mix up your style without having to buy a whole new look.
This season, we’re seeing cold weather fabrics start to come through the collections, with rich leathers, cool cords and the trending boho-style sheers in no short supply. So, whether you’re looking for a simple style for the office, a daytime dress for weekend wear or an evening piece to see you through a gastro pub dinner, we’ve found something to suit almost every occasion – and all for under £150.
& Other Stories belted utility midi dress
Saint Laurent shone a spotlight on utility fashion during its autumn/winter collection, and the high street is starting to catch on. With extra large pockets, a cool khaki shade and a strong, structured shape, this frock makes military fashion much more chic.
River Island black faux leather belted shift midi dress
One benefit of shifting to a cooler season is that leather can come back into our style rotation. Adding a sophisticated yet slightly sultry vibe, this black faux leather find would look just as striking styled alone as it would layered over a crisp white shirt or thin knit roll neck.

John Lewis lace slip midi dress
Few colours are as chic as all-black outfits, and this lace slip dress is certainly no exception. To keep to shade-matched styling, opt for a black pump, boot or heel.
Cos scarf-detail wool maxi dress
As a key winter warmer, jumper dresses are often created in deep black, burgundy or neutral tones, so this cobalt blue pick stands out from the crowd. Plus, it comes complete with a scarf design, adding extra interest.
Monsoon Rowena leopard print ruffle dress
Leopard print is one of the standout trends of the season, with animal print jeans, blouses and dresses dropping on both the high street and the high end. This ultra-feminine find even adds ruffles, stepping into the equally trending boho style.
Simply Be red tiered romantic maxi dress with tie detail
Any fashion fan will know how big the boho look is this season and this Simply Be frock fits the bill just perfectly. With a tiered skirt, loose-fitting fabric and slightly sheer style, it ticks every bohemian-looking box.
