It’s January. Christmas is over, we’re back at work and it’s started to snow. Take a mini break from reality with our rundown of the chicest looks from the Golden Globes red carpet.
The first week of January can be a little bit bleak: the festivities are over, the leftovers have been eaten and everything we said we’d sort in the new year is now upon us. It’s back to the commute and an overflowing inbox after a spell of post-Christmas limbo filled with seasonal films and Celebrations for breakfast. After the joyousness of December, we’re all in need of a boost and a little break from reality. Enter the Golden Globes.
Elegant eveningwear can be viewed from the comfort of our own homes, as the stars from our favourite movies and TV shows took to the red carpet for the 82nd annual awards ceremony in Los Angeles.
As ever, the red carpet was awash with gorgeous gowns that ranged from custom-made numbers to vintage classics. Metallics stole the show, with many taking style inspiration from the golden hue of the award itself: Cate Blanchett (re)wore a beautiful embellished Louis Vuitton, Mindy Kaling opted for a floor-length strapless Ashi Studio number and Kristen Bell served a striking silhouette in another glamorous golden gown.
Zendaya stole the show in a burnt orange custom-made Louis Vuitton that oozed old-school Hollywood glamour, while Emma Stone sent us into a frenzy with her chic new hairstyle. From holding space for the Wicked stars to jaw-dropping numbers from Babygirl’s Nicole Kidman and a lady in red moment for Dakota Fanning, there were so many spectacular looks to admire this year. Here are the best looks from the red carpet.
Zendaya in Louis Vuitton
Zendaya has proved once again why she is eternally our style icon. This opulent burnt orange Louis Vuitton oozes old-school Hollywood glamour, especially when paired with a coiffed bob and a decadent diamond necklace. The best look of the night.
Cate Blanchett in Louis Vuitton
The golden gowns are having their moment tonight, and this Louis Vuitton is one of the best. Blanchett first wore this gown in 2024, and it complements the soft glam of her wavy bob, nude lip and radiant eyeshadow.
Cynthia Erivo in Louis Vuitton
Cynthia Erivo not only defies gravity, but she also always defies all our style expectations. This striking custom-made Louis Vuitton stands out with its plunge neckline, intricate silver geometric details and eye-catching structure.
Ariana Grande in Givenchy
Ariana Grande’s soft, buttery spin on the golden hue is a refreshing and radiant choice. The regency-inspired white gloves accentuate the historic nature of this vintage Givenchy dress that debuted back in the 1960s.
Emma Stone in Louis Vuitton
A red carpet is the perfect place to debut a new hairdo, and I am obsessed with Emma Stone’s fresh pixie cut. No additional adornments are needed: the stunning silhouette of this voluminous red Louis Vuitton speaks for itself.
Mindy Kaling in Ashi Studio
Mindy Kaling looked every bit the golden goddess with this metallic strapless dress that featured a sensational thigh-high leg slit.
Angelina Jolie in Alexander McQueen
One of the most dramatic looks of the evening was this beautiful beaded Alexander McQueen gown drenched in crystals and sheer panels. But the sweetest element of Angelina Jolie’s ensemble is that she colour-coordinated with her daughter Zahara.
Zoë Kravitz in Saint Laurent
Hot off her directorial debut in 2024, Zoë Kravitz opted for a timeless colour combo with this breathtaking monochrome dress. The low-plunge neckline and white sash offered a sleek twist on a classic black dress.
Awkwafina
We loved the mesh details on Awkwafina’s black and gold gown, which is complemented by her slick-backed behind-the-ears hair.
Dakota Fanning in Tony Ward
Everything about this jaw-dropping red dress by Tony Ward is spectacular, from the striking scarf and draped bodice to the thigh slit and the matching red lip.
Zoe Saldaña in Saint Lauren
It’s truly Zoe Saldaña’s evening! She’s a first time Golden Globe winner and wearing a sumptuous Saint Lauren gown that is elevated by the addition of an oversized shawl (tying into a decadent bow at the back) and some stunning Cartier jewels.
Kristen Bell in Ashi Studio
As if we needed another reason to be obsessed with Kristen Bell after Nobody Wants This, the actor shone in this rose gold metallic masterpiece from Ashi Studio with a striking corset and silhouette.
Viola Davis
A true showstopper of the night was Viola Davis’s magical black shimmering ensemble with a glorious mesh cape with hints of colours from the rainbow.
Nicole Kidman in Balenciaga
That’s our baby girl wearing a backless metallic one-shoulder Balenciaga that’s made all the more spectacular by a voluminous high pony.
Anya Taylor-Joy in Christian Dior
Anya Taylor-Joy is a vision in pink! This sumptuous satin gown oozes elegance, especially with this chunky necklace. The look is softened by the pink tassel shawl.
Anna Sawai in Dior
Shōgun actor Anna Sawai shone in this angelic custom Dior dress. It reportedly took 450 hours to make this structured beauty, which Sawai paired with a prominent silver choker.
Elle Fanning in Balmain
We love that Elle Fanning brought this season’s favourite print to the red carpet in this voluminous Balmain gown with gorgeous bust detail.
Demi Moore in Armani Privé
This custom Armani Privé gown was sculpted to perfection for first-time Golden Globe winner Demi Moore. Every detail elevates this golden gown – my favourite metallic number of the night.
Miley Cyrus in Celine
There is an early 00s charm to this black and silver cut-out dress from Celine, especially as it’s paired with the wispy updo and metallic eyeshadow. No notes.
Michelle Yeoh in Balenciaga
Everything about this Madame Morrible-coded gown (and the bangs reveal) is perfection: the high neck, the fishtail shape and the voluminous train. Stunning.
