Friends at 25: Ralph Lauren launches Rachel Green fashion collection

We genuinely couldn’t BE any more excited by this Friends-inspired fashion range.

This Sunday (22 September) marks the 25th anniversary of Friends. To celebrate this momentous occasion, Ralph Lauren has teamed up with Warner Bros on a collection that celebrates the most fashionable of all the Friends gang: Jennifer Aniston’s Rachel Green.

It’s a partnership that makes perfect sense. After all, Rachel became a fully-fledged member of the fashion pack when she secured a job at Ralph Lauren in ‘The One with Rachel’s Inadvertent Kiss’ – despite that disastrous job interview.

You know, that same disastrous interview she took three times, only to end up kissing her interviewer, mistaking his gesture to remove the ink of her lip as an invite for another kiss, and ‘missing’ his hand when going in for a shake at the end.

Here’s a brief reminder:

“Now, you’re probably going to hire one of the people who did not yell at you and storm out, and I think that’s a big mistake and here’s why,” Rachel fiercely told bewildered hiring manager Mr Zelner.

“I made a huge fool of myself and I came back, that shows courage. When I thought you wanted sex in exchange for this job, I said no. That shows integrity. And, I was not afraid to stand up for myself and that shows courage. Now, I know I already said courage, but y’know you gotta have courage. And umm, and finally when I thought you were making sexual advances in the workplace, I said no and I was not litigious.”

Won over by her enthusiasm, Zelner gave Rachel the job – and she went on to become one of Ralph Lauren’s most influential (albeit fictional) employees. She was promoted to merchandising manager, given a (hot male) assistant, and eventually offered a well-paid job in Paris with rival company Louis Vuitton.

And, during her time at Louis Vuitton, Rachel definitely dressed the part. Indeed, she nailed 2019’s ‘grey is the new beige’ trend long before her time – and curated a workwear wardrobe of chic blazers, roll-necks and midi dresses.

As such, Ralph Lauren has curated a Wear To Work collection based on Green’s distinctive style. Think leather trousers and skirts, polo-neck knits, pin-striped suits, and mini and midi skirts, as well as a dash of leopard print.

The pieces come from both Polo Ralph Lauren and Lauren Ralph Lauren, meaning that many are more affordable than you might expect, with prices starting at £120.

This is probably the one we’re most excited about, as it looks just like Rachel’s grey work dress from the show.
