Speaking on stage at Stylist Live 2024, podcaster, presenter and author Frankie Bridge reflected on her fashion history and shared how she creates a stylish yet functional capsule wardrobe.
How did you get dressed this morning? Did you open your wardrobe and see what spoke to you? Perhaps you planned it out a few days ago. Maybe you pulled on every single thing you own and eventually settled on the first thing you tried (and the wardrobe carnage can wait until you get back home).
While it may seem like a trivial decision, there’s a very real reason why so many of us struggle to pick out an outfit. After all, the clothes you wear can have a huge impact on how you feel, and few understand that better than podcaster, presenter, author and mental health advocate Frankie Bridge. Every Sunday, she shares her ‘Faves’ with more than 2 million social media followers, proving that fashion can be both accessible and aspirational.
Speaking on the main stage at Stylist Live 2024, Bridge opened up to Susan Riley, Stylist’s head of brand, about her style evolution.
“Growing up in the public eye, I made a lot of fashion mistakes in public and tried a lot of things,” she said. “My approach to dressing is very different now. For me, an outfit is really based on how I’m feeling on that day. I find it hard to plan in advance. But I also never want anyone to think I’ve tried too hard, but that comes from a slight insecurity around people thinking that I always want to be seen, and I don’t.”

A firm believer that less is more, Bridge also shared the three simple yet stylish items she believes every wardrobe should have.
First, good basics. “A T-shirt or a vest in a good colour that fits well is a great place to start. My friends joke that no matter what I’m doing, I’m always wearing some combination of a vest,” she said.
Secondly, a structured blazer or coat. “I love anything with shoulder pads,” she added. “Even if you’re just wearing leggings underneath, it’s an easy way to elevate your look. It doesn’t have to be expensive – just oversized.”
Finally, accessories. “I think they’re so important. Whether you’re an earrings girl or love a necklace or even a scarf, adding those little touches can just dress up an outfit and finish it off.”
