If there’s one trend we can all get behind, it’s flat shoes. Whether it’s brogues or ballet pumps, these footwear choices provide a stylish finish to any look, without compromising on comfort.

The unlikely hero of the flat shoes trend? Crocs. Following an uncertain first foray into luxury fashion, Crocs have since evolved into a signifier of style.

“It was their inclusion in a Christopher Kane LFW show in 2016 that made the fashion world first sit up and take notice,” says Stylist’s fashion director Lucy Reber. “Now, when I see someone on the Tube in socks and Crocs, my first thought is: chic.”

In Lyst’s annual trend report, Crocs joined products by Prada, Bottega Veneta and Loewe in the top 10 most coveted products of the moment. The Hadid sisters, Billie Eilish and Ariana Grande have all been seen wearing Crocs.

And, it’s not just Crocs that are taking the fashion world by storm. In February, London Fashion Week designers showed a huge range of flat shoes on the autumn/winter 2024 catwalks, while Gucci’s 2025 resort show was styled exclusively with flat shoes, without a heel in sight.

This week, London Fashion Week once again spotlighted the city’s creativity as designers displayed their spring/summer 2025 collections to international audiences, and once again the shoe of the moment was flats. Though this season’s styles were sophisticated with more structure, detail and embellishment key to the silhouettes.
