Fashion at Wimbledon: tenniscore fever takes over as celebs hit centre court

We are getting some serious inspiration from these courtside ’fits.
It’s that time of year again. The sun is (sometimes) shining and the celebs are all making the trek to SW19 for the biggest event in the British tennis calendar: Wimbledon.
Whether you’re a tennis fan, a Pimms fan or a fashion fan, Wimbledon more than delivers. And this year, the celebs have already served a number of sartorial aces. Clearly, Zendaya’s masterful method dressing during the Challengers press tour has been a source of inspiration for us all.
The Wimbledon dress code is far from straightforward; in fact, there are several ways the tennis tournament’s theme can be interpreted. For some, nothing will do but a chic set of crisp, clean Wimbledon whites. For others, the event’s signature dessert – strawberries and cream – acts as inspiration. Florals and preppy looks are also popular. In other words, we always see a real range of styles.
Let’s take a look at what the stars are wearing this year…
Sienna Miller
Queen of all things boho chic, Sienna Miller did not disappoint with her Wimbledon outfit this year. She wore a polka dot co-ord consisting of a pleated skirt and a matching cropped top. She swept her hair back in a relaxed wavy bun. The decidedly preppy look avoided lurid lime greens or tongue-in-cheek nods to strawberries and cream, and it was all the better for it.
Hannah Dodd
Yellow isn’t a colour we see all that often at Wimbledon, but Bridgerton’s newest star, Hannah Dodd, proved that it’s the perfect shade for the tennis tournament. Although the weather has been decidedly grey this year, Dodd’s bright, fluttery maxi dress more than made up for it.
Leo Woodall
The men seem to be committing to the retro, double-breasted look this year, and it’s working. One Day’s Leo Woodall looked like a true gentleman in this grey tweed suit.
Alexa Chung
This outfit simply screams fashion It-girl in the best way possible. The beige midi skirt. The cable-knit cardigan buttoned only in the middle. The chic black clutch and matching flats. This may not be strictly tenniscore fashion, but it is undeniably chic and very London-coded.
Joe Alwyn
Joe Alwyn bucks the retro suit trend and instead goes sportier with his Wimbledon look, with white trousers, several layered blue shirts and matching blue shoes. Understated, classic and unshowy, it’s the perfect low-key look for watching a match or two.
Keira Knightley
Retro hats certainly seem to be in. This flat boater hat is a blast from the 1920s past, while the floaty asymmetrical Chanel dress with the black shoulder bow is also delightfully flapper-inspired. It’s six years since she starred as the eponymous 1920s writer in Colette, but evidently, she’s still not over it.
Jodie Turner-Smith
After a sea of understated Wimbledon whites, it is a treat to see Jodie Turner-Smith rocking this bright Ralph Lauren look. With clashing purples, greens and contrasting patterns, this is the vibrant, bold, rule-breaking look we needed.
Katherine Ryan
Katherine Ryan looked chic as anything in tailored navy trousers and a fuzzy white Loewe jumper with balloon sleeves. She topped off the look with a white and navy Wimbledon cap. She’s a comedian, podcaster, actor, host and, evidently, a fashion-forward tennis fan too.
Talulah Riley and Thomas Brodie-Sangster
Actors and newlyweds Talulah Riley and Thomas Brodie-Sangster looked as though they had just stepped off a 1920s tennis court in these sleek ’fits. Riley wore an oversized white V-neck jumper and knee-length off-white skirt along with a wide-rimmed white sun hat, while Brodie-Sangster wore a beige linen suit complete with a grass-green tie. This couple’s look is *chef’s kiss*.
Hannah Waddingham
Hannah Waddingham always looks like an utter goddess, and her latest appearance at Wimbleton was no different. The Ted Lasso actor appeared at centre court to watch Alexandre Müller take on Daniil Medvedev. She opted for a summery, floral interpretation of the dress code, wearing a glamorous maxi Elie Saab dress with a white, black and purple floral print. She carried a white clutch, donned a pair of dramatically oversized sunglasses and completed the look with a pair of black wedge sandals.
Kim Cattrall
Anyone who spends a lot of time on the internet knows that Kim Cattrall famously “doesn’t want to be in a situation for even an hour where she’s not enjoying herself”. Thankfully, the Sex And The City actor was willing to lend a little more time to tennis. Cattrall opted for a summer suit, wearing a baby pink blazer with matching trousers. She added an extra pop of colour with a floral shirt featuring a long neck tie ribbon.
Arlo Parks
Fresh off the heels of her electric Glastonbury performance last week, singer Arlo Parks wore a decidedly cool outfit for her Wimbledon appearance. She paired a very appropriate white polo neck shirt with a knee-length pleated grey skirt and matching crew socks. The sporty, laid-back look took inspiration from classic on-court fashion – in fact, Parks almost looked ready to pick up a racket herself.
Lucy Boynton
Actor Lucy Boynton went for a classic all-white look for her Wimbledon appearance, wearing a lace embroidered mini dress with a Peter Pan collar and A-line skirt. She paired the sweet dress with Celine Mary Janes, Celine sunglasses and a Celine bag. She also debuted a fresh pink dye, which added a pop of colour to the monochromatic look. Strawberries and cream, anyone?
Poppy Delevingne
Model Poppy Delevingne also went for a chic all-white look. She wore off-white floaty trousers, a white button-up shirt and a white blazer with black pinstripes. The look was preppy on the top and summery on the bottom, seamlessly blending the two staple looks of Wimbledon in one outfit.
Jameela Jamil
Actor and podcaster Jameela Jamil served up a preppy outfit at this year’s Wimbledon, opting for a blue and white midi sailor dress paired with black sunglasses and white heels. Fans of the The Good Place may recognise the dress: it’s one Jamil wore on the show.
Golda Rosheuvel
She’s queen of the ton and queen of the ’don – Wimbledon, that is. Golda Rosheuvel, best-known as the gossip-loving, headpiece-wearing Queen Charlotte in Bridgerton, wore a strawberries and cream-inspired red and white striped shirt dress to Wimbledon this year. She paired the bold, summery outfit with a pair of white heels, a black bag and a sleek updo.
