Uggs have gone high fashion and surprisingly, we're here for it

Everyone adores a designer collaboration - and the more unexpected the better.
Ugg both conquered and divided the world with its signature sheepskin boot. Once clamped to the feet of Sienna Miller, Kate Moss and Beyonce, the noughties staple took a thudding fall from grace in the fashion world.
In the real world, however, they never fully went away. Recent years have even seen a tentative revival on the celebrity circuit, with Cardi B, Gigi Hadid, Rihanna, Cara Delevingne and Sienna Miller (once again) championing the comfy footwear.
Now, cult cool label Eckhaus Latta has debuted a wholly unexpected collaboration with Ugg at New York Fashion Week. The edgy, homespun brand has thrown its fearless authenticity into reimagining Ugg’s familiar curved silhouette, unveiling square-toed, structured boots.
Some are flat, some have sturdy wooden heels, but the soft, spongy, oversize round toe is absolutely nowhere to be seen.
Ugg’s slip-on mules have become angular and heeled. One has a fiery red fleece lining set against a cool pastel blue suede exterior, while others are fluffy and open toed.

Other recent designer join-ups have preserved the distinctive circular Ugg profile but Mike Eckhaus and Zoe Latta, designers of the eponymous line, told The Cut they wanted to make it something “new and different’”.
“If you see an Ugg, everyone knows what that looks like,” Eckhaus said. “It’s so lasting in culture. But it’s no longer 2002 anymore. It makes sense to re-approach it in the same way that you would re-approach, I don’t know, maybe a Mackintosh trench coat, or something like that. You can twist it and make it something new and different.”

Onboard with the Ugg revival? The Eckhaus Latta collab will be available in September, starting at around £225.
