Fashion’s “magnificence marks” show up in New York.
Face jewels have been given a cool, understated reboot at New York Fashion Week, where they appeared at Christian Siriano’s show as a veil of “crystal freckles”.
Generally confined to days of summer extravagance, we’re used to seeing beauty gems in Coachella-ready glitter motifs; intricate, symmetrical designs dotted over the forehead and eyes. The look is usually completed with carefree wavy hair and bright clothes.
Siriano presented an altogether more pared back vision for his autumn ’19 show on Saturday, where Erin Parsons decorated models’ faces with quietly glistening Swarovksi crystals.

“I wanted to create it like a veil,” Parsons told Allure. “Whenever I do stones I usually do them very organically. It almost feels like freckles or beauty marks.”
Rather than placing them randomly though, the arrangement of each crystal was the same on each model. Bright blue mascara finished the look. Parsons used Maybelline’s Deja Blue Snapscara, which is not currently available in the UK.

It wasn’t just the models’ freckles that shined - silver hair jewellery hinted at a Nordic warrior vibe.

Hairstylist Justine Marjan weaved five strands of chains through low, slicked back ponytails, making sure the embellishment was only visible from the back.
