Getting dressed for the shows is pretty terrifying.

It's a month spent watching next season now and however fabulous your outfit may have seemed that morning, seeing new looks on the runway can make you feel out of fashion in seconds. I try to stick to my signature style of statement skirts, quirky t-shirts and denim - with a sprinkling of the season's key trends.

If I'm lucky I borrow a few key pieces from my favourite designers, do a binge shop on the high street (and end up taking most of it back), purchase a big ticket treat from Net-a-Porter then scour Vestiaire Collective for unique pieces that will bring it all together.

These are the trends I wore at Paris Fashion Week and how I styled them...

Bejewelled

There is a beautiful trend for exquisite craftsmanship and artisan details this autumn. Fabrics were studded with jewels and embroidered with crystals and totally steal the scene. Everyone commented on this skirt so I kept the rest of my outfit super simple to let the skirt shine, literally.

Sportswear

The sports trend is major for Autumn. I'm not really a tracksuit girl but I did want to nod to the look, so I teamed a Miu Miu anorak with some sharply tailored trousers and killer heels to give it an unexpected edge. Try a hoodie with a pencil skirt or padded gilet over a smart shift dress.

Velvet

The fabric of the season is undoubtedly velvet but instead of being used for pretty party dresses it's more casual and turning up on unexpected separates - simple skirts, slouchy trousers and blazers. Make it even more casual with a slogan t-shirt and denim.

Historical heroines

On the catwalk this looked like the hardest trend to pull of in real life as puffed sleeves, ruffs and brocade are the order of the day. Dress a statement piece down with denim and wear the dramatic items as casually as a t-shirt for optimum daytime impact.
