“I’m a fashion writer and these are the lessons I’ll be taking from this season’s shows”

I’ll be incorporating these trends into my wardrobe this season. Will you join me?

From pumped-up power suiting to second-skin dressing, the spring/summer 2024 fashion weeks boasted fresh and exciting new takes on classic wardrobe staples. The shows wrapped up in Paris after a month awash with creative spirit, budding talent and ingenuity – with designers experimenting with shape, colour and cut.

Ahead, I’ve pulled together my favourite styles off the catwalk that I’ll be trying this season. From ruby-red accessories to electric blue dresses, these are the latest trends that will put an ultra-chic spin on all your outfits and keep you looking unshakable this season.

No matter where I am or who I’m with, electric blue is the latest colour I’ll be wearing. It reminds me of tavernas in Santorini and Hockney’s painterly swimming pools. It’s a colour to embrace, not to fear.

To all you neutral-obsessives, trust me when I say it will swiftly become a wardrobe staple: electric blue is a shade so striking it requires very little styling effort.

Opt for head-to-toe dresses à la Roksanda, Victoria Beckham and Givenchy’s ankle-sweeping iterations – so chic.

I’ll be wearing this bright blue midi from Cos with a black leather boot and a cashmere cardi. Where, I hear you ask. Everywhere!

Although it may sound cliched, there really is nothing more confidence-inducing than wearing a blazer. Pumped-up power-dressing is as strong a player as ever on the catwalks this season, from Tove, Eudon Choi and Andreas Kronthaler for Vivienne Westwood. So there’s now more reason than ever to wear your oversized blazer.

Little slips seem to be having a moment this season and I’m never one to complain about a PJ style (it’s not laziness; it’s elevated casuals FYI). Sumptuous and sultry, a little silky sheath is always worn with ease. Zimmerman and Givenchy boasted the most luxurious iterations, but this season, I’ll be taking cues from Kiko Kostadinov and pairing rippling camisole dresses with fine knits for a cool contemporary finish.

Paint the town with red accessories

Over the past year, we’ve seen red heating up the catwalks and (aptly named) red carpets but this season it seems that handbags in this sizzling shade are the way forwards.

At Simone Rocha, models held dainty beaded berry bags while Carven showed luxe slouchy clutches. For a shining example, look towards Proenza Schouler, who paired mesh red handbags with matching dresses, tights and nail varnish. Obsessed.

I want to celebrate red and its fieriness. For me, the shade evokes memories at home in the wintertime, bundled up with mugs of mulled wine and hot flushed cheeks, waiting for a certain someone to tumble down the chimney. I’ll be wearing this divine red bag from Mango this season. How will you hop on the trend?
