Stunning and unique engagement rings under £1,000

Much like love, money doesn't buy you a beautiful engagement ring. Well OK, it doesn't have to buy you a beautiful ring.

As weddings have evolved, so have our tastes for rings. Popping the question no longer goes hand-in-hand with a traditional clasp diamond sparkler worth three months' salary (or whatever that ridiculous rule is).

With so many talented independent jewellers around right now, the market is suffuse with eye-catching, ethical and unique designs that won't leave you or your beloved eating baked beans for the rest of your lives.

Come take a look at a few of our favourite statement-making baubles to say "will you... ?" with, for under £1000:

Stockholm-born designer Efva Attling hits a beautifully simplistic note with her dreamy topaz ring in gold.

£565, Wolf and Badger

Oval cut Iolite cocktail ring

OK, it's £5 over budget but we reckon this stunning Iolite and white gold dress ring is worth it for the wow effect. Featuring an ethically sourced gemstone from Madagascar, the design is inspired by cocktail drinking ladies of the 1930s.

£1,005, Cred Jewellery

TRADITIONAL TWIST RING WITH DIAMONDS

We love the flair of this unsymmetrical organically-shaped ring by Corinne Hamak. With four diamonds framed in squared lines, it offers a fresh and modern take on engagement convention.

Rose-cut Opaque diamond ring

This diamond ring strikes a perfect balance for those who love the idea of a large diamond but still want to see antique and unusual design elements in their ring. Each ring is hand made and therefore unique and diamonds are sourced ethically and are conflict free.

£995, Rust

BAJA PRECIOUS RING

Spanish jeweller Monica Vinader brings us an eye-catching emerald design with pavé set diamond on 18ct rose gold.

We challenge to you resist this delicious raspberry pink tourmaline set in 18ct yellow gold, with a flower setting that is typical of Lilia Nash's Cotswold-based studio.

It's kitsch but we love it; introducing the 18ct oxidised gold ‘love’ ring inlaid with brown diamonds from Rosa de la Cruz.

Leeds-based Anthony Blakeney forms and moulds his jewellery using traditional methods for a sculpture-like look. We are very much drawn by the fine creativity of this silver and tourmaline ring.
