Copenhagen Fashion Week is the best for street style – 5 trends we’ve spotted

We predict these trends seen on the streets of Copenhagen will be key for spring 2024.

Alongside New York, London, Milan and Paris, Copenhagen has firmly cemented itself as one of the most anticipated fashion weeks to attend. And it’s no surprise when the street style looks are just as exciting as the designer shows. Scandi brands including Ganni, Baum Und Pferdgarten and Remain have been showing their autumn/winter 2024 collections, and while we’ll have to wait to get our hands on these, the fashion editors and influencers attending the shows were wearing trends that are bound to be big news for spring.

Copenhagen Fashion Week confirmed that leopard print is key, highlighted a new colour to wear (sorry, red) and saw the return of throwback outfits loved by Paris Hilton and Britney Spears. Here are the five trends we predict will be huge this year based on what we saw on the streets of Copenhagen.

1. Stick of butter

First it was pink, then red and now it’s all about buttery yellow. The sartorial hit of vitamin D brought the sunshine to chilly Copenhagen. While a yellow bag, shoe or jacket will suffice, the way to wear it is top-to-toe colour. It’s bound to put a smile on your face, and anyone else’s face when they see you wearing the uplifting shade.

2. Leopard print details

You’ve already heard that leopard print is having a comeback, and the street stylers in Copenhagen certainly agree. There were printed coats, dresses and jeans, but an easy way to wear the trend is with accessories. How good does leopard look with denim? And while the leopard print Wales Bonner x Adidas sneakers (spotted below) have sold out, we’ve seen them pop up on resale sites such as eBay, Depop and Vinted.

3. Skirts over trousers (yep, the duo is back)

A 00s favourite loved by the likes of Paris Hilton and Britney Spears, the skirt (or dress) over trousers was a stage a lot of us went through. To our surprise, the unlikely pairing is making a return for 2024. Mini or midi, anything goes as long as you’re layering them over your favourite jeans or trousers.

4. Long shorts with boots

While the weather forecast won’t allow us to dust off our denim shorts just yet, there’s a way we can still wear the summer staple. Shorts have gone south for 2024, being spotted in longline styles and worn with knee-high boots for a Scandi twist. We love how this looks with a blazer, but you’ll want to wear it with a vest top and linen shirt come spring.

5. Cropped leather jackets

Leather jackets aren’t anything new, but this time round, everyone is swapping the much-loved oversized baggy styles in favour of cropped, more fitted iterations. Much like how you would wear a leather jacket for a night out back in 2003, it’s all about the crop. Note: burgundy is also the couleur du jour, according to multiple guests this season.
