Pretty pastels littered the spring catwalks, and the trend is going nowhere for autumn according to designers at Paris Fashion Week.
One of the biggest trends of spring/summer was the ‘elevated everyday’, described concisely by Net-a-Porter market director Libby Page as: “The essential items in our daily wardrobes but elevated to new heights of exceptional design and style, from high-waisted pants reimagined in extreme proportions at Loewe to the impeccable tailoring with split sleeves at Ferragamo.”
All we want to wear right now is good quality basics and wardrobe foundations, like tailoring, but it’s not just on the catwalk where we’ve seen brilliant spring tailoring. Marks & Spencer’s classic two- and three-piece suits and Aligne’s contemporary tailoring with a twist are worth getting excited about. If you’re wondering where to start with the trend, there’s no better entry point than a pink suit or a pink shirt and trousers.

There were beautiful iterations of pink tailoring on the spring catwalks, including Max Mara’s luxurious separates and Sabato De Sarno’s debut at Gucci, which included a pink suit with shorts. The trend continued in Paris with Stella McCartney showing the most incredible, oversized chalk pink suiting, which could be pared back with flat shoes or chunky knits. Dries Van Noten, meanwhile, offered impeccable dusty pink trousers with a teal blazer for major evening inspiration.

Savannah Miller’s label Vivere has a failsafe pastel pink suit for spring – available now – and it looks as good dressed down with a longline trench coat and trainers as it does with a backless kitten heel and squishy leather clutch for an event.
And if it’s event inspiration you’re looking for, contemporary Australian label Aje is a go-to for editors and fashion insiders thanks to its effortless take on occasionwear. The brand has a pleated-front, wide-leg trouser and crepe shirt co-ord in a perfect chalk pink that would be ideal for any smart summer occasion. Or great with a matching – or clashing – oversized chunky knit come autumn.

If you’re not sold on head-to-toe pink, then why not take style cues from Max Mara, who worked light, earthy purples into its pink looks, or Dries Van Noten, who paired pink with teal for a more understated way to wear the hue this season.
