Cannes 2019: The most show-stopping red carpet looks

With the Cannes Film Festival well underway, the red carpet has been awash with the most incredible gowns. See the biggest show-stopping dresses here.

The Cannes Film Festival plays host to the world’s world’s greatest film talent. A platform for pure entertainment, the festival also marks an important date in the diary when it comes to red carpet fashion, drawing in the biggest names from all over the world.

Following on the wings of the recent Met Gala, the Cannes Film Festival (which spans 14 - 25 May) red carpet is known for the most beautiful gowns. Often deemed as a place where people can be a bit more exciting (really we think that’s code for more “extra”), we have come to expect big things from the Cannes red carpet.

After all, it is the same spot Princess Diana stepped out in an ice blue strapless chiffon gown, where Blake Lively has consistently wowed crowds, where models Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid regularly wear their most show-stopper dress, and where Lupita Nyong’o stole the spotlight in a bright green Gucci dress.

So far the Cannes red carpet has not disappointed, with stars taking to their film premiers in the most jaw-dropping gowns. Let’s just take a minute for Elle Fanning who is really ruling the fashion waves this season.

Prepared to be wowed.

Cannes Film Festival 2019: Elle Fanning

From the fresh flowers in her braided hair to the lace up back to this in breathtaking Valentino Couture gown, Elle Fanning is proving to be the golden girl on the Cannes red carpet this year.

Cannes Film Festival 2019: Bella Hadid

Bella Hadid really comes into her fashion own at Cannes, when she isn’t making us all want a nude Dior ballet skirt she’s painting the town red.

Showcasing candy pink hair to match her metallic gown, Helen Mirren proves you don’t have to take yourself too seriously to be stylish.

Cannes Film Festival 2019: Priyanka Chopra

In Cannes you can even get away with wearing a wedding dress on the red carpet, just as Priyanka Chopra who did just that.

Cannes Film Festival 2019: Penelope Cruz

Bringing the drama and volume in none other than bespoke Chanel couture.

Cannes Film Festival 2019: Julianne Moore

As well as making a huge mark on the film scene, Elle Fanning has found her footing in the fashion world too. Often opting for Alessandro Michele’s Gucci designs, last night was no different as Elle wowed in a peach dress with exaggerated cape.

Cannes 2019: Chloë Sevigny

Ever the style Maverick, Chloë Sevigny, opted for a Mugler thigh high split gown for the occasion.

Continuing the theme of thigh high splits, Eva Longoria took on embellished and satin in last night’s Alberta Ferretti gown.

Cannes Film Festival 2019: Tilda Swinton

Only Tilda could pull off a Haider Ackerman creation that is essentially column of silver sequins.

Cannes Film Festival 2019: Selena Gomez

It’s not easy to make a quilted bustier and skirt work on the red carpet, but as always Selena Gomez takes this Louis Vuitton look in her stride.

Green is always a good idea on the Cannes red carpet (see Lupita’s look from 2015), especially when it’s Dior.
