We’re embracing Nineties fashion this season, so let Pretty Woman be your guide to summer dressing
Dungarees, dad trainers, claw clips, bike shorts and scrunchies: we have welcomed an abundance of early Nineties fashion trends with open arms in 2018.
And when you think of Nineties fashion, it’s impossible to ignore the looks that came from films of that era. From Uma Thurman’s’ white shirt in Pulp Fiction to Susan Saranson’s high-waisted jeans in Thelma and Louise, there were many stylish Nineties movie heroines – but arguably none were as memorable as Julia Roberts’ break-out role in Pretty Woman.
Those thigh-high boots, that cut-out dress, the red off-the-shoulder number… Every look was a total knockout. And just when we thought it couldn’t get any better, Roberts stepped out in an oh-so-Nineties brown belted polka dot dress, making us believe that Rodeo Drive really was the only place to shop.
Matching our Nineties reverence with this season’s polka-dot-covered catwalk at Dior, Dolce & Gabbana and Prada has culminated in a summer smash hit: a Vivian moment we can all enjoy. Wear your brown polka-dot dress on any occasion – polo match not necessary but whooping with vigour encouraged.
