Whether worn with a formal three-piece suit or pared-back with jeans and trainers, these waistcoats deserve a spot in everyone’s wardrobe.
Jeans and a nice top has long been our go-to outfit for dinners with friends, weekend lunches, drinks at a semi-swanky bar or a slightly posher Sunday lunch. Any occasion, really. And while we have a handful of trusty jeans in our wardrobes, it’s the top part that often proves tricky.
A sleek shirt will instantly elevate your outfit yet can add a more office-like spin. The white tank top has seen an impressive spike in popularity, but it can appear casual. So, that leaves us with the recently revived waistcoat. Chic and easy to wear, they’ve had a slight style twist for this season.
While the classic three-piece suit waistcoat cut is still plenty popular, especially in basic black, longer lengths are gaining traction. Think hip height and below, often with a square or round neck and large buttons to create a contrast to the (often) neutral shades. All of which combine to make them even easier to style.
Pairing perfectly with skirts, jeans and dresses to add an extra layer of dimension, we’ve listed our favourite longer-length waistcoats below as well as a handful of classic shapes to suit every style. Use them in place of any top and they’ll soon become a core staple for any occasion.
