For a/w 2019 the cape is back with a bang. Worn every which way and for every occasion this is the outerwear item to invest in now.
When you think of capes, the mind probably wanders to dramatic period dramas or perhaps your favourite superhero. But for a/w 2019 capes have come in from the cold of fiction and back to the warmth of the fashion designer’s embrace.

Capes were everywhere on the catwalk this season, and there was one for every occasion; from a sweeping luxe patent version at A.W.A.K.E, through Parisian chic at Balmain, Celine and Chanel, camel delights at Boss, Chloe and Burberry, jewel toned and embroidered at Dolce & Gabbana, Richard Quinn and Erdem, and heritage redux at Marc Jacobs, Loewe and J.W. Anderson.

However, while we love the fact that the options seem endless, it can sometimes lead to a spot of choice paralysis: which one of the many options will you actually wear? How do you even wear a cape in the 21st century? The answer is easy- keep it simple. As much as you may wish to be swept off to the opera in an over the top romantic cape, the reality is, a cape is a damn good winter coat and one we should embrace for every day.

The versatility of the cape means that it can be worn to work, in the evening or as day wear. Our favourite way to style the cape is to layer it over the knits you already own, pair it with slim or wide leg trousers, and voila! You’re away.
Here’s out pick of the best capes to invest in now.
